On Friday March 10th the Smoky Hill Unified Basketball team played in the Special Olympics State Championship Tournament, after defeating a tough Brighton team in the semi-finals 31-24 they played Poudre High School for the State Championship and a chance at a Gold Medal. Led by Seniors Jeremy Schaeffer, Ian Brennan, and Sophomore Danny Trout on offense and Juniors Anna Bunag-Calderon, John Wognum, Grace Weber, and Sophomores Vicky Trout and Ryan Brown on defense the Unified Buffaloes came away with a hard fought one point victory 57-56 to take the State title and earn a gold medal! Partner athletes Moe Wyatt, Karson Avila, and Emmi Crowe were fantastic ensuring the games were played fair and all the players had fun. The Unified Buffaloes finish the season with a record of 17-4 and their 4th straight State Championship!

News from Smoky Hill:
During the 2015 legislative session, lawmakers passed SB 15-223 which gives parents the right to refuse to have their children take the state standardized tests CMAS, PARCC, PSAT and the SAT without any negative consequences to the student, teacher or school. The law only applies to the state mandated tests CMAS and PARCC, PSAT and the SAT and does not apply to other tests given in the classroom as part of the course work.
