HuJews Conclave 2016 Recap

Our annual teen and young adult HuJews Conclave was held in early Spring in Chicago, IL.  The event drew youth from both the SHJ and CSJO from the US and Canada for a weekend filled with camaraderie, community service, friendship and celebration.

The theme for this year's Conclave was "Big Questions."  What does it mean to be human?  What does it mean to be Jewish? What does it mean to be a humanist?  These questions and others were examined in both formal workshops and informal discussions, as well as through shared group experiences.

Repeat Conclave attendee Libby Otto summarizes her Conclave experience: " On multiple occasions I have tried to explain exactly what a HuJews Conclave is like. Nearly every time, I fail to fully express my love for the event and all that it has to offer. I'm afraid this year is the same. Having attended for four years, I have come to understand that no Conclave is the same. Each location, each group of people, each theme brings its own experience and authenticity. This year we were able to explore Chicago, volunteer with three incredible organizations, hold an amazing discussion about the "Big Questions" about family and life, and of course, socialize. This year has brought me closer to the family I've chosen for myself. And now that it's over, I can't wait for DC 2017."
