Retail Snapshot Q1 2016
The retail business sector in Downtown New Haven continues to grow and expand. At the end of Q1 2016 a 91.3% occupancy rate was recorded along with a 6.6% vacancy rate.

A total of seven (7) businesses opened, five (5) leases were signed, one (1) business loss was incurred, and a new development has been approved.

Taste of Brazil
Tiago Pavuna had a dream, to open his own restaurant. When Taste of Brazil opened its doors, the ten-year restaurant industry veteran realized his vision.

When Pavuna and his business partner Linalva Coelho arrived in New Haven via Philadelphia, it was to purchase equipment from the recently closed Chicklets. However, once they saw the town and the location, 135 Church Street, the conversation quickly changed. The partners offered to purchase the business along with the equipment. Read More

Arethusa Farm Dairy, on Chapel Street in New Haven, serves farm-fresh ice cream, yogurt, cheeses, and milk. The original dairy is located in historic Litchfield, CT and has 300 award-winning cows.

The Terrasse Program expands the outdoor dining experience. Restaurants benefit from increased visibility with a fun, unique dining area for customers by replacing an existing metered parking space with vibrate furniture and umbrellas.

On the final day of Retail's BIG Show 2016, retail industry professionals gathered to hear Marian Salzman, CEO of Havas PR North America, make sense of the complex and dynamic world in which they're now operating. Salzman identified several broad trends being seen throughout the world and how those trends will affect the retail industry in 2016 and beyond.
