Volume 36- June 8, 2018.
"St. William of York, pray for us."
Father, Creator of All, thank you for summer!
Thank you for the warmth of the sun and the increased daylight.
Thank you for the beauty I see all around me and for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy your creation.
Thank you for the increased time I have to be with my friends and family,
and for the more casual pace of the summer season.
Draw me closer to you this summer.
Teach me how I can pray no matter where I am or what I am doing.
Warm my soul with the awareness of your presence and light my path
with your word and counsel.
As I enjoy your creation, create in me a pure heart
and a hunger and a thirst for you.
Amen.

Thank you for all your support and commitment to Catholic education.
Enjoy a well-deserved summer!
-Mrs. Roberts, Miss Hiponia, and the St. Joan of Arc Faculty and Staff

GEOGRAPHY BEE WINNERS GRADES 3 - 4
First Place: Max Fuchs (4B)
Second Place: Freddy Abreu (4B)
Third Place: Agustina Noe (4A)
SECOND GRADE
The students in second grade had a fun filled visit from High Touch High Tech that included experiments explaining
and testing gravity.
Third Grade STREAM
Lesson on Simple Machines
Ms. Garcia's and Mrs. Mejia's 3rd grade students created simple machines using recycled materials. They learned about
force and how simple machines are key components to simplify our daily life. Students worked in cooperative learning groups and had a blast on their
Simple Machine Scavenger Hunt throughout the campus.
5B STREAM
Miss Simone
Ms. Simone's 5th Grade Social Studies students exceeded expectations as they
chose an era and researched WWI, WWII or the Vietnam War. Students utilized any tool of their choice to teach their classmates about one of the three wars in a creative manner. Students included timelines, important events, and maps in this STREAM project. Students incorporated a reflection piece as they positively critiqued each other's projects.
GRADE 7 FIELD TRIP
Museum of Discovery and Science in
Fort Lauderdale. Students enjoyed going
on the brand new interactive science park which features a tennis ball launcher,
bottle rockets, and pulleys.
As part of the June Teacher Workweek, the faculty participated in training on how to engage students via STREAM. The teachers discussed "essential questions" and
 student-centered project-based learning implementation.

END OF THE YEAR MASS
Mother Theresa said,
“I’m a pencil in the hand of God.”

At St. Joan’s End-of Year Mass, we gave our greatest thanks to our faculty and to our staff for their commitment to let God use them and work through them.
They are His hands and feet, and we admire all that they do!
It was a pleasure to recognize Mrs. Currier as she is retiring. She has been teaching at St. Joan of Arc School for 33 years.
Mrs. Currier is an outstanding elementary teacher. She is dedicated, experienced, reliable, perceptive, technologically savvy, creative, and professional. Mrs. Currier is particularly talented at developing great rapports with her students and their parents as she has a very calm demeanor, quiet sense of humor, and it is quite evident that she truly enjoys teaching.  Each time I walk into her class I notice that her students appear to be motivated, engaged, and joyful.
Mrs. Currier prepared her middle school by instilling in them strong study skills, how to be independent, and develop conflict resolution skills. She always treats her students as young adults. She is also organized and eloquent as the team leader for when 4 th and 5 th grade teachers have vertical planning meetings. Lastly,
Mrs. Currier has been our Biz Town advisor. Mrs. Currier is a perfect representation of a 21 st century
 professional educator.
We will miss you and I want to remind you, hopefully it wasn’t a moment of weakness, that you agreed to planned substitute days.
 Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement.
We paid tribute to our teachers who reached milestones of years of service in their career at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School.
