Principal's Letter
Dear Families of Saint Joseph School,

As we prepare to celebrate a national holiday focused on gratitude, I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your generosity of time, talent, and dollars. Beginning with El Rancho, the Fun Run, and all of the times we have asked for donations to raise money to help good causes such as helping hurricane victims or victims of the recent fires, you have been more than generous. For me, generosity is another form of gratitude.

May you have a blessed Thanksgiving with family and friends!

Below are thoughts about gratitude coming from the true wisdom of some of our Fifth Grade students. Please read them - they are beautiful examples of gratitude!

Finally, I leave you with a quote for reflection: “When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.” - G.K. Chesterton

God’s Blessings on Each of Us,

Dr. Marquita Yriarte

What I am grateful for…

I am grateful for a home.

I am grateful for my house because my bed helps me sleep, my home gives me shelter, food helps me survive, and water keeps me thirsty. I am grateful that I have the opportunity to help people who cannot help themselves. Some people do not have homes, so that is why I want to help.

I am very grateful for the school that I go to because the teachers there are wonderful and they teach me so much that I need to know.  I am also very grateful for my family because they take care of me no matter what happens.  I am grateful for living in a safe community and to have shelter.  Last but not least, I am thankful for everything because God did everything for me to make me happy and He sure did.

I am grateful for my musical talent and all of my musical instruments including my melodica, my piano, my trumpet, my voice, my recorder, and my irish penny whistle. I am also grateful that my grandma can live in my house and greet me every morning and afternoon. Another thing that I am grateful for is my education because without it I could never learn.

I am grateful for my school because I learn a lot of things. If I did not have school, I would not be as smart as I am today. That is why I am grateful for school.

I am grateful for my roof over my head, my nice warm bed to sleep in, and also my parents. I learn more from my parents, and I love them a lot. I do not know what I would do without them.
I’m grateful for friends, family, and the support everyone gives one another. Because support can help you achieve anything that others believe is not possible. Family and friends are the best people that you will ever know. They really encourage you try to do things other people believe you can’t.

Pick Up and Drop Off Reminder

Please remember that the SJES drop off and pick up lane is located on the Lafayette side of the school along the white zone. (PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF OR PICK UP ON CHESTNUT STREET. THIS IS FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL ONLY.)
In the morning during drop off, parents should drive up next to the curb. Helpers and staff will be there to open the car door and help your child get out of the car. Parents should not get out of the car. Once your child is out of the car and the car door is closed, you should drive away. Your child will be directed to go inside the school gates.
During pick up, parents line up along the white curb on Lafayette side only! Do not pick up in front of the church or along the street on Chestnut side This is reserved for the high school.
Thank you for following the procedures. It makes for a much smoother pick up and drop off for both schools.
The Basilica Tower Cross is Restored
On April 4, 2017, the St. Joseph Basilica Tower Cross, which had been in place for 90 years, was taken down after sustaining damage from high winds.
The SJES students helped raise $425.00 with their $2 dollar free dress and popcorn fundraiser. The money will be used towards the costs to re-install the cross.
On Thursday, under, stormy skies, SJES students, SJND students and parishioners came together for a prayer service led by Father George to bless the new cross. The prayer service began in the church where our 4th Grade students sang for the entire congregation. After the service, all the students went outside to watch the unveiling. The children cheered and chanted , "Father George" as he was lifted to the top of the tower where he prayed and blessed the new gold cross.
