Principal's Letter
October 6, 2017

Dear Families of Saint Joseph School,

I want to take a moment to thank you for the time and effort you all extended in participating in parent-teacher conferences. Working together in a positive manner certainly empowers our students to do their very best!!!

I am attaching a video for you in this newsletter that I have shared with our teachers regarding how to talk to your children about the shooting in Las Vegas. I have reviewed it and I feel it would be most helpful to you. As we move forward, let us continue to keep the victims of this senseless tragedy in our prayer.

I wanted to let you know that I will be away from the school from October 12 until October 31. As you know, prior to coming to Saint Joseph I had retired. I had planned a once in a lifetime trip to Greece and the Holy Land. Financially, I did not have the option to cancel this trip. I discussed my planned trip with our Superintendent , Kathleen Radecke, before taking my position, and it was agreed that I would take my trip.

Having said that, I feel I will be leaving the school in good hands with Ms. Katherine Francisco as Acting Principal and Mrs. Linda Radecke as Acting Assistant Principal. I have been working with them since my arrival as they are my Administrative Team. I have every confidence that with their leadership, the school will run smoothly. Ms Francisco and I will be in contact through email and, if necessary, through telephone.

I look forward to seeing you at El Rancho!!!!!!

God’s Blessings On Each of Us

Blessing of the Animals

In honor of the feast of St. Francis, Father George came out on Tuesday, October 3 to bless our pets. Many children brought in their small animals, pictures of their pets, or stuffed animals. Parents came at 2:30 with cats, dogs and rabbits. The children held their animals high for Father George to sprinkle holy water on them.
Kindergarten Adventures
Kindergarten enjoyed a hands-on, real-life science lesson during their field trip to Encinal Nursery. Students toured the gardens and greenhouses, learned about various plants' needs and even chose their own plant to bring back to St. Joseph's. The field trip was an extension of Ms. Betts' Life Sciences Unit. Students have been studying native California plants, their life cycles, and food uses. The plants they've brought back will be cloned by the Kindergarteners to be shared with the rest of the school.
El Rancho is HERE!

A special thank you to Mrs. Lopez and her team of Mrs. Holley, Mrs. Perez, Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Dominguez for all the hard work to put organize the day.

A huge thank you to all the parents for helping put on an amazing day of fun and community. When we all work together, we can do amazing things for our children.

News on the Block
Basilica Celebration of Our Lady of Fatima
St. Joseph Basilica, will celebrate the centenary of Our Lady of Fatima on Friday, October 13th at 7:00 PM. The celebration will begin with the blessing of the new statue of Our Lady of Fatima followed immediately by the Holy Eucharist. After Mass, theree will be a procession around the block to sing Marian hymns and to pray the rosary in different languages.
