Did you know that the SJMS PTO is a great place for parents to meet other parents as well as keeping your fingers on the pulse of what's going on in your Middle Schooler's life.

The SJMS PTO needs YOUR membership!  Your membership dues help the PTO purchase snacks for the school concession stores, provide teachers with small treats throughout the school year, and help fund other school activities!  Keep a look out for more information on joining the PTO for next year and how you can help out!
Please contact Mrs. Van Dyke for more information.
If you would like to volunteer at SJMS, please go online and fill out the Volunteer Background form.
Click here to fill out the application
You must complete a new form each year.  Please note that if you do not complete the proper paperwork, you can not help chaperon field trips or help with the school in any way.  We need and want your help, so please fill out the form as soon as possible.
Tiger Parents,

Wow!  What an awesome week we had at Johnson.  I hope yours was spectacular too!  We have been so impressed with how the students are treating each other and how they are demonstrating TIGER PRIDE (Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence).  Be sure you read Tiger Tales each week. There is a lot of information about clubs, athletics, fine arts, and other activities that you don't want to miss any important updates.  Also, classroom teachers, coaches, and fine arts directors will also send you the most detailed information relevant to your child's activities.  The Tiger Tales gives you the weekly highlights as reminder for busy parents.

This email distribution list for the weekly Tiger Tales is generated from our student registration system.  If someone you want to receive Tiger Tales is not currently receiving it, please email Sacnite Gonzalez at sgonzalez@mckinneyisd.net so we can add an email or adjust the setting on your current registration information.
Morning Drop off  and Afternoon Pick-Up
Students are not allowed on campus before 8:15 a.m. This includes students that walk to school.  It is not safe to have them out front before we open the doors, as we do not have supervision until that time.  While on campus student safety is our primary responsibility and that is not possible before 8:15 a.m.  You are welcome to wait in your car with them until and administrator comes to the front doors to let them in.  Consequently, 4:00 p.m. is the latest they can be on campus in the afternoon.  Please arrange a safe way home for your child each day.   Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Parking Lot
Thank you for your patience in the parking lot this week.   The wait times each morning and afternoon got significantly better.  The process takes some getting use to, but it is fast, efficient, and more importantly safe.  Help your students by reminding them of these safety tips.
  • Do not run when crossing the street or parking lot
  • Look both ways
  • Cross only at the crosswalk
  • Do not talk on your phone or text while crossing
  • Follow the directions of the adults at all times
Additionally, please discuss with your child what your plans for dismissal will be when there is bad weather.  i.e. rain, ice, etc.  For students that walk, this can be very scary if they have not been told what there options are.  Riding with neighbors, walking with friends, permission from you to go over to a friends house are all possible scenarios.  It is up to you, so let them know what you would like them to do.

Thank you again for sharing your incredible children with us.  It has truly been a super week and a pleasure getting to know them or getting reacquainted with them.  We would like to give you a virtual "high five" for raising such fine young ladies and men.

Have a super weekend.

Sincerely,

Mitchell Curry

Back To School Health Tips for Parents, Students, and Teachers
If following some simple tips could help your child miss one less day of school, what would it be worth to you and your family? Below are some simple things you can do to help them have a healthier year.

General Health Tips
*Wash hands often and thoroughly with soap and warm water for 20 seconds - about the time it takes to sing the "Happy Birthday" song twice.
*Practice good health habits, such as eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, getting plenty of sleep, and not sharing food and drinks with others. Eat Breakfast daily it is the most important meal to help boost brain power.
*Keep children home from school and other activities when they are sick. Students need to be fever free for 24 hrs without taking medicine to return to school.
*Teach your child to sneeze, cough, or blow their nose into a clean tissue and then dispose of it properly.

*Try to keep children from touching or rubbing their eyes, nose, and mouth, as these are common ways for germs to enter the body. Do not chew on fingers or pencils/pens that contain germs.

*Pack healthy snacks for your child and teach them to wash fruits/vegetables before consuming.  Drink plenty of water throughout the day and stay hydrated.
*Disinfect or sanitize frequently touched surfaces, such as toys and other commonly share items.
*Remind your children to keep their lockers clean by bringing home dirty gym clothes to wash and not store for in their locker.
