McKinney ISD- Department of Instructional Technology
A monthly newsletter for parents, grandparents, families and the community dedicated to updates and information on how McKinney ISD uses technology in the classroom.

Attendance

We are all interested in the very best education possible for our students; therefore it is imperative that each student attends school every day unless they are sick.  Per McKinney ISD parent/doctor notes must be turned in within three (3) school days of the student's return to school, a note signed by the parent that describes the reason for the absence must be turned in to the attendance clerk for attendance documentation.

Please email attendance notes to Mrs. Hennessy shennessy@mckinneyisd.net
or fax them to 469-302-4901.

For truancy questions, please contact your student's
AP Secretary.

The McKinney ISD crisis response plan prohibits parent access to school buildings during a school lock-down, during lock-down drills, and when the district has placed campuses in tornado safe mode. Once the District has placed campuses in a lock-down or tornado safe mode, staff and students will be in protected areas of the building, and not near exterior doors or windows.

Parents and other visitors will not be granted access to the campus for the duration of the lock-down or tornado safe mode.

 Thank you for your cooperation.

If you would like to volunteer at SJMS, please go online and fill out the Volunteer Background form.
Click here to fill out the application
You must complete a new form each year.  Please note that if you do not complete the proper paperwork, you can not help chaperon field trips or help with the school in any way.  We need and want your help, so please fill out the form as soon as possible.

Dance/Open Gym
Our February Dance and Open Gym is getting very close.  The SJMS Cheerleaders will host the Open Gym and Valentines Dance on February 17th.   The 6th graders are invited to the open gym from 3:45 - 5:30 PM and the 7th and 8th graders are invited to attend the Valentines Dance from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Here are a few reminders:
  • Regular dress code does not apply, but students must still be dressed in an appropriate manner.
  • The principals will have the final say on inappropriate dress, so please have your student dress with class.  Please ask in advance if you think the clothing is questionable.  I do not think we will have any problems since we have never had an issue before.
  • Only students currently enrolled at SJMS will be allowed to attend either event.
  • All students must have a ride no later than 15 minutes after the end of the event (5:45 p.m and 9:15 p.m.).
  • The open gym includes games, concessions, and music.
  • Both events cost $5.00.
  • Food and drinks will be available for sale.

Tiger Clawfee!
We need your support with an incredible opportunity for our students and our school.

1) SJMS receives 100% of the profit
2) the coffee is free trade coffee and exceptional coffee
3) the name and logo was designed by our AVID students
4) and finally the coffee is provided to us by Honi's
(a community partner of SJMS).

Simply print the form and return it to SJMS.  There is an option for repeating the purchase so that you only have to fill out the form once.  Please take a look and let me know if you have any questions.   mcurry@mckinneyisd.net

Be in the know... MISD News!
During bad weather, we make every attempt to assess the road conditions and notify staff and students as early as possible. Every effort is made to assess the road conditions and make a final decision by 5:30 a.m. Although, there have been cases where the weather worsened during the morning hours and a decision was made slightly later than the 5:30 goal.

The district will use several communication avenues to notify parents, students, and staff. The ParentLink automated phone calling system will be utilized in the event of a delay or school closure. If you recently changed phone numbers and have not notified the district, please make certain your information is accurate by contacting the registrar at your child's campus.
