SJRS Monthly Newsletter April 2018
Saint Jerome Regional School
"Living Fearlessly Through Faith..."
A Message From The Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The announcement last week about the Diocese’s purchase of a new school building for SJRS has us all extremely excited. This is great news for our students and families! SJRS is growing, and it is a great opportunity for our school.   I want to assure all of you that in a collaborative effort, school administration and staff along with parish and diocesan leadership will be working hard all summer to have the building ready for the start of the 18-19 school year. We will keep you informed as more information becomes available.
Though our facilities are changing, Saint Jerome Regional School will continue with our mission to live fearlessly through faith. Inspired by our patron, we strive to instill family values while teaching superior academics and preserving traditional standards. St. Jerome Regional School teaches for life to create a community of conviction, respect and excellence. Our base is family, our mission is faith and our future rests in the courage to leave behind a legacy.
We’re very grateful for the support that the Diocese of Allentown has given us. It’s pretty clear that the Catholic education of our youth is a top priority of the Diocese of Allentown. We thank Bishop Schlert for his leadership and support of Catholic schools.
This building has been our school's home for almost 100 years and there are a lot of memories here. While it will definitely be sad to leave, I think we can also take a deep breath now and look to the future with confidence.
This new location allows our school more space to grow. As you are all aware, enrollment is in full swing. This year’s theme is "Come Grow With Us". We ask you to spread the great news about our school. Please encourage all interested friends and families to contact our Advancement Director, Ms. Manda Smarr about registering at 570-668-2757. Please share that at Saint Jerome Regional School, they will find high academic standards, a welcoming school family and a commitment to excellence.
Then. Now. And for years to come.
An Easter Prayer
May the glory and the promise of this joyous time of year,
bring peace and happiness to you and those you hold most dear.
And may Christ, Our Risen Savior, always be there by your side
to bless you most abundantly and be your loving guide.
AMEN.

Introducing our New Music Teacher
We are happy to announce that we have hired a K-8 Music Teacher, Mr. Brad Cressley . Music class will now be on Fridays. Mr. Cressley started playing the clarinet while in 4th grade and his love of music continued to grow ever since then. He studied clarinet and saxophone with Melvin Hill, Ken Leffler, Paul R, Smith, Jack Reichard and Robert Balliett. He played with Lehighton School District bands and was also active in choruses while in school. Outside of school, he was a member of the Lehighton Boys and Girls band as well as the Lehighton Band for many years.

Cressley is a graduate of Lehighton Area High School and graduated from Penn State University in 1988 with a bachelor of science degree in Biology with an emphasis on human physiology.
He is currently the owner of Carbon County Music and More in Lehighton where he teaches instrumental lessons on clarinet, flute, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and percussion. He is also the director of music at Zion UCC in Lehighton and teaches general music at Saint John Neumann Regional School in Palmerton and Slatington. He is the current director of the Lehighton Band and Director of Zion Opera Workshop (Carbon County’s oldest running theater group).
Each year he directs a large ecumenical Christmas cantata with nearly 100 members. He plays with the Palmerton Band and in the pit band of Lehighton High School productions.
His philosophy on teaching is keeping music fun while presenting a "big picture" education of music not just limited to the instrument or song being taught.
Brad is married to Beth (Smith) Cressley, a 4th grade teacher in the Lehighton School District and has two children, Laura and Brandon.

Join us as we welcome Mr. Cressley to the SJRS Family!
