Saint Jerome Regional School
"Living Fearlessly Through Faith..."
Message From The Principal
Dear St. Jerome Regional School Family,
Please let me be the first to say welcome back to school! Whether you’re returning or new to our school family, we are blessed to have you here.  We are very happy to be settling into our new building and cannot wait to share our excitement with the faculty, staff, students and families. Thank you for your patience during the move this summer. We are very busy preparing for your return! Aside from the new school building itself, there are many other exciting additions and changes to our staff and school. This letter is full of important information, so please keep it handy for your reference.

  • Lockers are being painted and installed
  • IT services, rewiring, set up was completed
  • Installation of the STEM Lab
  • New signage is being installed on the front of the building
  • Cement work will be completed in September
  • Since Christ is at the center of our school, we felt it important to continually have the Blessed Sacrament present. We are happy to announce that our school chapel, Sacred Heart Chapel will allow us to continue to serve the spiritual needs of our students and to grow the Catholic identity of our school.
EDUCATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  • We have purchased a new reading series that will be used in grades K-6. The series is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journeys. Journeys is a comprehensive K-6 English language arts program. It provides an instructional system for reading both literature and informational texts, for acquiring foundation skills, and for developing mastery of speaking, listening and writing.
  • We have also added a second section of 2nd grade this year thanks to our growing enrollment! We now have double sections of Kindergarten and 2nd grade.
  • This summer, we applied for a grant through Computer Aid, Inc. We were informed that we will be awarded a $48,710 Instructional Technology Grant for the 2018-2019 School Year. As part of the effort to continually enhance education at Saint Jerome Regional School, we have decided to designate a space in our new school building for a STEM lab where students can solve problems and create solutions. We want our students to be prepared to be resourceful problem-solvers. During the 2018-19 school year, SJRS will begin to transition from the traditional computer class to a STEM class. Students will still be learning their computer skills, however they will now be able to develop their skills in a more integrated setting. They will be learning to problem-solve, communicate, collaborate and critically think in a space designed for activity and supplied with the resources they need to discover, apply and create. The space will be transformed this fall and will hopefully be completed by the end of September.
  • We will also be utilizing the Dreambox Learning Math Program. As today’s teaching continues to focus on one-to-one personalized instruction, we realize the importance of digital tools like DreamBox. Tools like this will make learning math a truly successful and inspiring experience for students and teachers. The way that Dreambox assesses student progress at every step of the journey is extremely helpful to classroom teachers. This is also made possible through the Computer Aid, Inc. grant. Since this is a very unique year for SJRS, in that we are moving the location of our entire school, our plan is to have this year serve as a hybrid year for the Dreambox Learning Math Program. The teachers will use this year to fully learn and understand the program. They will have professional development at faculty meetings throughout the 18-19 school year, in order to be ready to fully implement the adaptive software in the next year 2019-2020.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  • Due to the changing landscape in our area, we are pleased to announce the formation of St. Jerome Regional CYO. While CYO will be hosted at our school, CYO is still a parish organization. This means, that students from both Catholic and public school are able to participate. If your child is interested in participating in the fall sports offered, please call the school office for a form. If you already returned a fall sports form, you do not need to return a new form.
FIRST DAY ARRIVAL PROCEDURES:
  • Please be sure that your child arrives between 7:45-8:00 AM on the first day of school. Homeroom starts at 8:00 AM. Children should not be dropped off before 7:45 AM during the school year, unless they are registered for ECP. ECP will start September 4th. The main doors will not be unlocked until 7:45 am.
  • All children in grades K-8 should be dropped off and enter the main entrance of the school building. Please do not park in front of the main doors. The large loop is for drop off only. Buses and cars will be arriving and leaving at that time. Parents should use the small loop in front of the main entrance if you are parking your car to come into the school for school business. We ask that all parents take their final pictures and say good-bye to their children before their children enter the building. Parents will not be walking their children into the building. Teachers and Staff will be outside directing and helping the students. On the first day, we will have all of the children report to the gym to line up with their class and their teacher. From there, the teachers will begin to take all of their students into their classrooms.
DISMISSAL PROCEDURES:
  • On the first two days of school, we will dismiss students in two groups. Please be patient the first few weeks of school, as the students will be learning new procedures and dismissal may take longer than expected. Parents who are picking up their children are not permitted to use the large bus loop during dismissal. Parents should park in the parking lot, and wait for their children to be dismissed from the back door exit near the playground area. Buses will be using the large loop to pick up, and the buses will be loaded and dismissed first.
  • Group 1 – Kindergarten students will be dismissed at 12:00 PM at the main entrance of the school. Busing is not provided for Kindergarten students on these two days.
  • Group 2 – All students in grades 1-8 will be dismissed at 2:45 PM. Buses will dismiss from the main entrance and car riders/walkers will be dismissed from the exit near the playground.

We are all very excited to have the new classrooms and hallways filled with our students, filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. We wholeheartedly believe that, as our mission statement reflects: Our base is family, our mission is faith, and our future rests in the courage to leave behind a legacy. It is truly a privilege to be part of a family where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and help each other to live fearlessly through faith. Enjoy the rest of your summer, we hope to see you on August 23 rd , but we will definitely see you on August 27 th . Let’s make it a great year at SJRS!
