SJRS Monthly Newsletter February 2018
Saint Jerome Regional School
"Living Fearlessly Through Faith..."
A Message From The Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Just like us, schools all over the United States are preparing for a celebration for Catholic Schools Week. During CSW, the students, staff, parents, family members, board members and the people of the parishes will show in different ways that they are proud of their Catholic schools. It is good to celebrate who we are and what we do. The theme of Catholic Schools Week this year is Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed . There is love, kindness, joy, truth and justice in every school, but we are also a faith community, a Catholic school. We are a school where faith is part of everything we do. It is part of how we learn, how we play, how we treat each other, and who we are. We give thanks that our school is a place where our many different kinds of learning are all influenced by our faith in a God who loves us very much.
Some of the highlights during the month of January are listed below:
  • This month we sold snowflakes for a donation of 50 cents. The money collected was sent to the St. Vincent DePaul Society to aid needy families. Thank you for your generosity!
  • Our student ambassadors prepared for CSW at their meetings this month and are excited to be a part of Catholic Schools Week as they represent SJRS.

  • Progress Reports were sent home today, January 26th, to all students in grades K-8. Please be sure to sign and return the envelope to school. This is only the mid-point in the second trimester. There is still a lot of time left in the trimester to work on improving grades. If there are any parents who would like to have a conference with the teacher, please send in a note or email the teacher letting them know.

Looking Ahead:
  • Marian High School Rock Music Ministry will perform for our students, staff and friends at Mass on January 29th at 9:30.
  • Please view the CSW Flyer. We are looking forward to celebrating CSW next week!
  • Our Read a Thon kicked off January 24th. We hope to see everyone participating in this event this month!
  • In February, our students will have two assemblies:
  • Diane Rowland, a Prevention Services Coordinator with the Schuylkill County Drug and Alcohol Program, will visit SJRS for an awareness presentation on the dangers of alcohol and other drugs for students in grades K-8.
  • Joe Holiday, the master magician with The Reading Rocks Magic Show will be at SJRS on February 22nd. This is a forty-five minute assembly program that our students will see!  The program showcases 7-8 different books on different reading levels which is followed by a specially created magic effect incorporating the theme or characters. This brings the book to life and gets the students excited about Reading! The show incorporates lots of audience participation, comedy and popular music to keep the show exciting and up-to- date. We are looking forward to this GREAT assembly! For more information, visit the website at: www.ReadingRocksMagic.com. See the flyer below.
