SMAC Awards $6,344 to area Artists and Arts Organizations

Provides community-based arts organizations in the SMAC region with up to $5,000 in matching funds to increase their long-term stability and capacity through organizational development and management projects. 
 
Wilder Pageant Committee, Walnut Grove, $2,060 to analyze what the Wilder Pageant needs to remain viable as a theatrical experience for actors, technical staff and audiences in the future. Five focus groups will be created, including board mission and vision, evolving the theatrical production, audience development in increasingly competitive markets, funding Sources and sustaining the production, and community partnerships that support the production. walnutgrove.org/index.html 

Provides community-based arts organizations with up to $4,000 in matching funds for the purchase of equipment items and facilities improvement that will improve the organization's capacity to serve the arts needs of the SMAC region.
 
The Barn Theatre, Willmar, $1,251 for removable/accessible seating. The new seating will be able to be removed to accommodate a more diverse audience comfortably. The new seating will be located in the first and back row of the theatre's seating. www.thebarntheatre.com 
 
Provides up to $5,000 to aid established career artists in the advanced stage of their career development with projects that will advance their career.

John Ginocchio , Marshall, $1,983 to travel to Spain for the purpose of researching the music of Moorish and Christian marches. Ginocchio plans to meet with directors and officers of the Music Societies, observe performances, and attend some of the Festivals of Moors and Christians where this music is performed. Ginocchio plans on bringing back the knowledge to share the tradition with the Minnesota community through many concert performances, presentations, and written work to make this music more easily accessible for bands of all levels.

Provides newly formed art organizations up to $2,000 to develop articles of incorporation, by-laws, and apply for their 501(c)(3) status. No catch match required.

The Unsung Songwriters performed for guests at the Business, Art & Recreation Center (BARC) in Windom. Laura Nerness' paintings and photography are featured on the right wall.

The Southwest Minnesota Arts Council (SMAC) is a non-profit organization committed to promoting and encouraging the development of the arts in the eighteen counties of southwestern Minnesota by serving as a source of funds and technical services which enable local organizations, educational institutions, and individuals to sponsor and/or create and promote the arts in their communities.

SMAC receives funding from individuals, businesses, organizations, schools, cities, counties, private foundations including the McKnight Foundation, an allocation from the State of Minnesota, and a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund, made possible by the voters of Minnesota.
