News from Mrs. Sims

Lent began on February 10th. It is a time for us all to prepare to renew our baptismal promises. The three main components of Lent are prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. As parents, we are the primary educators of our children.  We lead by example in word and deed. Lent is the perfect time to teach our children the value and power in prayer. We can show gratitude for what we have by sharing our blessings with others. We can take time to rest in quiet contemplation and focus our energies on just being together. We don't have to necessarily give something up, but we can take something on that glorifies God and brings us closer to Him.

There is much grief and sorrow in this world. We lead busy and preoccupied lives. We often choose negativity over positive problem solving. May the appreciation of our gifts expand our hearts this Lenten season. I pray for more light, love, and hope to strengthen us all in our spiritual journey. Here is the afternoon prayer we are using with the children.

Eternal God,
the refuge of all your children,
in our weakness, you are our strength,
in our darkness, you are our light,
in our sorrow, you are our comfort and peace.
May we always live in your presence,
and serve you in our daily lives;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen

May God Bless You and Your Family,
Wendy Sims
