News from Mrs. Sims

Next Thursday is the day set aside for our fall PTS conferences. I know it is always tempting to take that extra day to extend a trip, but these conferences are a wonderful way to show your support for the teachers and open the lines of communication between school and home.  You will learn about your child's academic and social progress so far this school year.  You will also discuss with your child the goals he or she has set.  The conferences are limited to 15 minutes each to insure that everyone has a chance to meet.  If the need arises for a more in depth conversation, please make a separate appointment so that the teacher has time to truly focus on your child's needs.  We want to be considerate of the teacher's time as well as those who are anxiously waiting in the hallway for their turn.

Thank you to our PTO for hosting the Fall Festival Kick-Off Pep Rally today.  The students are excited about earning great prizes this year by selling raffle tickets.  They also seemed to really enjoy the fact that I've agreed to a pie in the face if they sell 30,000 tickets!  I'm not sure if that's better or worse than kissing a pig, but I'll take my chances.

May God Bless You and Your Family,
Wendy Sims
Blessing of the Animals

SMM's Blessing of the Animals will take place on Wednesday, September 30 .   The Blessing will take place at 2:15 pm on the football field.

In order that our student dismissal runs smoothly that day, please abide by the following:

¨   Anyone bringing an animal to be blessed is asked to park in the church parking lot, NOT in the regular dismissal line behind the gym/PAC.
¨   Please let your child's teacher know that he/she will need to be dismissed at 2:15 pm on that day so that they can attend the Blessing.  You can send a note or e-mail to the homeroom teacher letting them know that your child will have a pet participating in the Blessing.
¨   If you have a dog to be blessed, you will need to gather on the end of the football field closest to the church.
¨   If you have a cat to be blessed, you will need to gather on the end of the football field closest to the PAC.
¨   All the other animals will need to gather in the middle of the football field.
¨   Immediately following the Blessing, you and your child/children are dismissed and should proceed to your cars.
¨   All those students not participating in the Blessing will be dismissed at 2:45 pm
Thanks in advance for your attention to this request!  We hope to see you and your pet there.
Volunteers Needed

The leaves are changing, the air is getting crisp, and it is time again for the SMM Fall Festival. The Fall Festival raises approximately $40,000-$50,000 each year, which goes to our children's education. In order to make it a success, we are counting on your help. Each shift is only 1.5 hours, which means that you will have plenty of time to enjoy all of the wonderful activities that are planned for the 2015 Fall Festival. Please sign up for a slot(s) that corresponds to the current grade that your child/children is/are in.  Together, we can make this another successful year!
