From Mr. Glasner
Hello Shaker families!

This week, we welcomed our rising 7th grade students to the Middle School for our annual Woodbury/Middle School Transition Days. The Woodbury students had an opportunity to hear our band perform, participate in Design and PE activities, and take a tour of our building. Woodbury students also had the opportunity to eat lunch in our Middle School cafeteria. It was great to meet our future 7th grade class and to help get them prepared for Middle School! A special thank you to the Middle School and Woodbury school counselors for all they did to plan for these days and to our SMS Student Ambassadors, who did a great job taking the Woodbury students on tours of our building.

Next week is also Teacher Appreciation Week and School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. I am honored and privileged to work in a District with such dedicated faculty and staff. Our teachers and bus drivers make a positive difference to so many of our students, which we know takes a lot of hard work. Our students are lucky to have you. Thank you so much!

Finally, I want to send a special shout out to all of the faculty, staff, parents, and community members who helped organize our 8th grade trip to Washington, DC. Nearly 300 students are attending this year's trip, along with many faculty members. Our PTO raised over $10,000 to support student participation in this trip. This trip exemplifies the inclusive community we strive to achieve at Shaker and gives students the opportunity to learn about tour nation's capital in person. A special thank you to Mike Sears for all of his hard work organizing this trip.

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

From Your PTO Co-Presidents
We wish the 8th graders a very successful trip to Washington, DC! It was an early but exciting departure Wednesday morning. We want to extend a huge thank you to Mr. Sears as well as to the staff and chaperones that make this trip possible! It's such an amazing opportunity for the kids. Thanks to the hard work of Lucy Yazinsky, Meg Furey, and Jenn Wrubel, PTO was able to sponsor scholarships for students to go on the trip. The ultimate goal is for every 8th grade student to have the chance to be a part of the DC trip, so thanks to everyone for your support of our scholarships.

The Administration has narrowed the Middle School principal search down to two candidates. If you did not attend the meet and greet sessions on Monday and Tuesday nights, click here to watch the videos from the sessions, as well as provide feedback on the candidates.

Please note that the feedback is due by Monday, May 7, so do not miss this important chance to provide feedback on the SMS Principal candidates.

Thanks so much and have a great week!

Shaker Heights School District Summer Construction Projects

There are several construction projects at our schools from June 7–August 17. Please be aware that there will be limited parking at the schools while the construction workers are on site.

Please note the following construction project at the Middle School:
  • Repair and paint the exterior

Also, we expect congestion in and around the High School Oval as the following parking lots will be closed for the summer construction period:
  • High School south parking lot
  • High School north parking lot

Please plan accordingly if you will be visiting or picking up/dropping off students at the High School. We suggest budgeting an extra 10 minutes for walking from your car to a building. The Administration Building lot will be restricted to building users only.

During the construction period, the SELF and Shaker Heights City Summer Recreation Programs will run according to schedule in the respective buildings. Walk-in routes to the buildings will be identified. Participants and employees should plan accordingly to gain access to the buildings.

Contact the Shaker Heights Schools Business Office at 216.295.1400 with any questions. Click here to review the full list of construction projects.
