From Mr. Glasner
Hello Shaker families!
Thank you to all of our families, students, friends, staff and faculty members who came to our Thanksgiving Dinner earlier this week. As always, the event was a great way to celebrate our amazing community and to enjoy each other’s company. A big thank you to the PTO, and coordinators Emily Braman, Christina Bordonaro, and Carrie Rhodes , as well as SMS teacher Ms. Lasley, for their support in making this annual event such a success. Also, a huge shout out to our Honors Choir and Step Drill Team for wonderful performances. We have a lot to be thankful for and it was great to celebrate with our Shaker Middle School family.
Last week, I had the opportunity to see how technology is transforming our learning environment. Using the Google Hangout video conferencing platform, groups of 8th grade students in Mr. Oryl’s science class mentored and tutored groups of 3rd graders from afar, to help them learn about designing earthquake-resistant structures. Thank you to Mr. Oryl, our District instructional coaching team and the teachers and students at Onaway for making this happen. We look forward to integrating many more of these types of experiences in our classrooms!
This is a reminder that students will not have school next week, because of Shaker teacher professional learning days and the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you to everyone for your support of our community and I hope you have a great holiday!
Sincerely,

From Your PTO Co-Presidents
We want to thank Emily Braman, Christina Bordonaro, Carrie Rhodes, and Frankie Lasley for their hard work on the wonderful Thanksgiving dinner on Monday! Over 350 people attended the event and everything was amazing! The food was delicious, the entertainment was fantastic and it was a great night to visit with old friends and meet new ones. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces sitting around a table and enjoying each other's company! We also want to thank the SMS Honors Choir and Step Drill Team as it was such a treat to see and hear them in action.

The SMS PTO wishes everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and we hope you enjoy time with your families and friends.

College Credit Plus (CCP) offers students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in High School. This is called "dual credit," since a student earns both high school and college credit for the same course.

The program is open to students in grades 7-12. Currently, Shaker students are earning credits through Tri-C, CWRU, CSU, JCU, Notre Dame College, Kenyon College, and Lakeland Community College.

Information about the program is available on the High School/School Counseling page and on the Ohio Department of Education website

Families interested in 2018/19 or future years are encouraged to come to our College Credit Plus Information Meeting on Wednesday, January 10, at 7pm in the Large Auditorium at SHHS.  College representatives and school counseling staff will provide an overview about the benefits and challenges of the program. Contact Gabrielle Perrin, College Credit Plus Coordinator, with questions or for more information at [email protected] or 216-295-4220.
