Hello Shaker families!
Now that it is November, I want to personally encourage all of you to participate in our
Annual Family Thanksgiving Potluck
on Monday, November 13, from 5:45-8pm in our school cafeteria. Last year’s event was a huge success and I am excited to see our community come together again this year for good food, good company and good entertainment. A special thank you to the PTO’s wonderful support in making this event happen.
At Shaker Middle School, we work with our students to help teach them how to appropriately use technology tools, social media and the internet. As part of this effort, all of our students participated in an internet and social media presentation last week sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office. The assembly provides students with guidelines about safe and responsible social media use and also informs them about some of the dangers that can occur when sharing private information on public platforms.
I would also like to highlight our school counseling team—Ms. Anderson, Ms. Abrams, and Ms. Longino—who help educate our students about social media use. For Halloween this past week, our school counseling team dressed up as "social media butterflies" to help remind our students of safe and responsible social media practices. Check out their picture above! We encourage students to always “think before you post” and to make sure that whatever they say or post online is true, helpful, and kind. You can help support these efforts by supervising your children’s social media use and by reminding them of these guidelines.
Thank you to our District communications team and our science teachers for helping plan and coordinate the opportunity to learn from the astronauts who are based in the International Space Station. The live streaming event this past week was amazing! We hope the event continues to inspire our students to follow their passions and to realize that through education we can all explore this world and beyond.
I look forward to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
