Hello Shaker families!
I would like to share some highlights from the past week. Last week, members of our Shaker community joined our Design classes to share their experiences in Design-related careers. For example, we had a team of engineers meet with students who are in the middle of a unit on bridge building and one of our parents who works at Nestlé spoke with students who are in the process of designing healthy snacks. A special shout out to 8th grade student Giles Foster and his mother, Danielle Sydnor, for sharing their entrepreneurial experience creating a line of healthy soaps. Shaker alumnus, Ethan Holmes, also came in to talk about how he invented and produced a new and healthy brand of mouthwatering applesauce, which is carried in many local supermarkets. Thank you to all of our parents and community members for helping infuse real-world experiences and careers into our Design program!
Last week, our Spanish classes also held our annual Day of the Dead celebration. Throughout the morning, students had the opportunity to learn about Mexican culture, about how Day of the Dead is celebrated, and got to taste traditional holiday bread. Thank you to our Spanish teachers and parents for supporting this learning experience!
This is a final reminder that Halloween is next Tuesday, October 31. As in the past, we will be adhering to the following guidelines:
- Students are permitted to dress up, but may not wear masks and are not permitted to bring in any toy weapons, real weapons, or items that can be confused as a weapon.
- Costumes must adhere to the dress code and must be appropriate for school (for example, no vulgar language, no diapers, etc.).
- Students are not permitted to distribute candy to each other in school.
I look forward to seeing everyone soon!
Sincerely,
