DUBLIN
Knitting and Stitching Show

Hello to all my new Irish friends and a huge thank you to you all and EVERYONE ELSE that attended my courses and visited my shared stand with Ruth Issett. Our exhibition 'Equal on all 4 Sides' seemed to go down well in Dublin and we had nothing but a great time, during our time there. Thank you also to all the organisers of the show and of course mention must be made of all the other wonderful exhibitors and friends that I shared such a great few days with.

I so enjoyed teaching my sketchbook courses and hope that everyone that came enjoyed it as much as I did. My apologies if I sounded bossy at the start, but I knew we had a lot to get through and I can't tell you how thrilled I was with the focus you all gave that intense hour.

So those of you visiting Harrogate do book on one of my workshops if you haven't done so already, so you do not miss out as many did in Dublin.

QUICK AND EASY WAYS OF FILLING A SKETCHBOOK

Don't forget you are all welcome to come to my studio in Shropshire so read on to see what is happening in 2014.

MATTHEW HARRIS ~ 25/26 April

From Parts to a whole

A workshop that explores 'chance operations' as a wayof discovering the un- tapped potential of found and given materials. Working with a set of rules that constrain and limit choices, we will be exploring ways to stimulate new ideas through drawing and making.

JAN BEANEY ~ 8/9 May

Stitch for Texture: Bedazzled and Bejewelled

A fun and inspirational course where students can layer, adorn, wrap, bead, or add mixed media materials with hand stitches to create wondrous surfaces. An emphasis will be on hand stitch, with some machine embroidered extras worked on soluble film.

JEAN LITTLEJOHN  ~ 2/3 July

Stitch, Blend, Embellish

On this course we will develop hand stitched surfaces and use blending and embellishing techniques to work them into their backgrounds. Suitable for both hand and machine stitchers and will show innovative approaches to embellishing into stitch.

DOROTHY TUCKER ~18/19 July

Floral and Foliage Designs:

Layer and combine fabrics to make a lovely cloth and then use running stitch to interpret your own original drawings and designs. You will go home with a small, very individual, beautiful piece of work informed by the art of Kantha making.

DT7

SIAN MARTIN ~ 2/3 August

Dramatic relief surfaces in Fabric

Create dramatic and permanent relief shapes in fabric using the simple Japanese method of steam-setting. Fabrics are tied and stitched before steaming and removing the ties and stitches reveal fabulous exciting results.

A NEW TITLE FOR THE SHOE CHALLENGE

BARKCLOTH to ARTSHOES

One small step towards a brighter future

I urged you in my last newsletter to get busy stitching and this is another small nudge. Janet has received 20 pieces but a good 100 have been issued. Lets see them trickle in to her from now on. The project as you will all know now

aims to raise funds and awareness for the charity 'Hands up for Uganda'

These are the first two pairs of shoes and will be on display at the last Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate. These will not be wearable shows but ART SHOES, so don't hold back from being inventive. You do not have to make the shoes, just decorate the bark cloth or incorporate the bark cloth in with your working methods and why not include any 'over the top' wacky adornments.

Please visit Barkcloth to Artcloth on Facebook

FINALLY

If you have purchased a piece of bark cloth for this challenge can you please make sure that I do have you down on my list and that I have your email address so that I can keep you informed of how the project is progressing. THANK YOU
