President's Message for December

December 1, 2016
"For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given."
Isaiah 9:6-7
Peace and Greetings:
As we reach December on the calendar, the season of Advent comes upon us and as Christians we begin preparing for the birth of the Christ child in our lives. I invite you to do so by finding time to celebrate the season with your St. Paul family. Please consider attending one of our preparation events:
Advent Evening of Reflection and Light-Up St. Paul
(Tomorrow - December 2 at 6:30 pm)
Feast of the Immaculate Conception Mass at St. Gregory the Great Church (December 8 at 10:30 am)
Art Show & Christmas Concert
(December 14 at 6:30 pm)
Christmas Mass at St. Gregory the Great Church
(December 23 at 11:00 am)

Tomorrow's Light-Up St. Paul is a fun family event. Consider joining us for our outdoor advent prayer service, caroling, tree lighting, bonfires, food and more. It's also a good time to stop by our rear courtyard where the NHS is selling Christmas trees and wreaths.
In addition, there are two, beautiful, community holiday shows at St. Paul on the next two weekends: the Holiday Showcase of Stars this Saturday, December 3 at 7:00 pm and the Bristol Chorale & Bristol Brass and Wind Ensemble, Sunday, December 11 at 4:00 pm. Treat yourself!
The campus is being decorated for the holidays ... the winter athletic season is upon us ...the cast & crew of our spring musical, Mary Poppins, have begun rehearsing ... as always, lots going on!
This is a reminder that our Christmas vacation begins on Friday, December 23 at noon. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 3. School will be closed on Monday, January 2, 2016 in observance of the New Year holiday. This is a change to the original calendar.
St. Paul follows a two-hour delayed opening in inclement weather. However, out-of-town busing is on a 90 minute delay to give these buses more time to travel to school. Generally, St. Paul follows the decision of the Bristol Board of Education. On inclement weather mornings, you should be contacted by our Parent Reach notification system. You must say hello to activate the message. If you do not receive a call, please contact our main office. Closings, delayed openings and early dismissals will also be posted on WFSB, WVIT, WTNH and WTIC-TV. You can sign up on their websites for electronic device school alerts.
We had 150 prospective Class of 2021 students take our November Placement Exam. Our next Open House is Saturday, January 7 at 10:00 am and the second placement exam scheduled for Saturday, January 21, 2016. Thank you again for the sacrifices you make, for all you do to contribute to the life of this school, and for being great ambassadors for St. Paul.
St. Paul is blessed as a faith community to have the freedom to live the gift of Christmas every day. It's the reason we exist. I wish you and your family much joy, happiness and peace during this season and throughout the year. Merry Christmas!
In the Spirit of St. Paul,

"New Year's" Resolutions

The season of Advent begins the new liturgical year. During their weekly visit to our Rev. Edmund O'Brien Chapel during religion class, St. Paul students have been writing down their resolutions for this season as we seek to draw closer to Christ and prepare a home for Him in our hearts. The resolutions are in a basket at the base of our chapel altar and will be part of our school Mass in celebration of our national patroness, the Immaculate Conception of Mary on Thursday, Dec. 8 at St. Gregory the Great Parish at 10:30am.

Faculty and staff have joined students in adding their resolutions to the basket. Let us each take time this season to open ourselves to receive and extend Christ's love.

Click here for information about documentation needed for the FACTS Grant & Aid application .  In cases of divorce, both parents must apply for financial aid and supply financial documents. If you occupy separate households, each parent should complete a separate application. For more detailed information, please see the Tuition Assistance page of our website .

Those who do not complete the application by February 10, 2017 risk not receiving aid, since the available funds will be allocated first to those qualified applicants who have submitted their applications and supporting documents on time.  Award announcements will be mailed out in late March or early April.
