President's Message for March
March 2, 2017
"Remember you are dust and unto dust you shall return."
Peace and Greetings,
Ash Wednesday, marked the beginning of Lent, the 40-day period of prayer, fasting and almsgiving in preparation for Easter. It's a time for all of us to reflect and create habits of the mind and heart centered on Christ. Pope Francis, in his 2017 Lenten Message emphasizes, "The Word is a gift. Other persons are a gift."  He writes, "The word of God helps us to open our eyes to welcome and love life," and that, "each life that we encounter is a gift deserving acceptance, respect and love.  May the Holy Spirit lead us on a true journey of conversion, so that we can rediscover the gift of God's word, be purified in the sin that blinds us, and serve Christ present in our brothers and sisters."
All are invited to a Lenten Evening of Reflection and Prayer Service facilitated by Fr. Gary Simeone, co-chaplain, on Thursday, March 16 at 7:00 pm in the St. Paul chapel. Take a few moments to reconnect, refresh and revive yourself. We'll save a seat for you!
We look forward to welcoming Archbishop Blair and all the educators in the Archdiocese of Hartford to our campus on March 28 & 29 as we host the Catholic Educators Faith Conference. There is no school for students on those two days.
After very successful regular seasons, we wish our girl and boy student athletes well in the CIAC state basketball tournament. Congratulations to the girls' team who won the NVL Tournament last week in stunning fashion defeating Holy Cross High School. And don't be left out! Tickets will be going on sale Monday for our much anticipated spring musical, Mary Poppins, coming in April.

You may have seen yesterday the article on the front page of the Bristol Press announcing that our Haitian Outreach Initiative has exceeded $50,000 during our 50th Anniversary year. I'm very proud of our community for raising $53,808, over the last five years, in our effort to bring improved health and comfort to the lives of some of the poorest people in the western hemisphere.   Through our prayers, financial generosity and summer mission trips, the spirit of St. Paul is wherever we take it. "Whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters you do to me."
(Matthew 25:40)
Recently, you should have received, in the mail, the latest St. Paul edition of the "Honoring Our Past, Shaping Our Future" 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign report. I'm pleased and sincerely grateful to share that we have now exceeded $1.2M toward our $2M goal. The next project phase, to be completed later this spring, will be air-conditioning our 700+ seat auditorium. I ask that you prayerfully consider investing in this special anniversary campaign, at any level, as we continue to grow and transform the educational experience provided to our students and families. Our time is now!
I am reminded every day, all day of the gifts that comprise our St. Paul community. Let us remember to pray for each other as our Lenten journey begins.
In the Spirit of St. Paul,

St. Paul Pro-Life
In conjunction with the launch of St. Paul participating in the Baby Bottle Boomerang to benefit Carolyn's Place (a nonprofit, faith-based organization that provides loving support to mothers, fathers, and their babies), founding members of the newly-formed St. Paul Pro-Life Organization invite new members to join.

As Christians, we recognize the dignity of human life from conception to natural death. Best put by Pope Francis, "The right to life is the first among human rights."

We invite you to join us in spreading God's message that all life is sacred. We will be giving a voice to the voiceless through advocating for the protection of life and through charitable works.

In addition to the baby bottle drive as our first project, future projects may include advocacy, hosting speakers and video screenings, and a spiritual adoption mission. Students who are interested in joining our Pro-Life Organization may sign up with Sister Marie Benedict (Room 119) or contact Chloe Ferraro.

Students, parents, faculty and staff can pick up a bottle in the main office, at lunch or email Sister Marie Benedict. The goal is to fill each bottle with spare change. We will collect the bottles on Monday and Tuesday of Holy Week to present at Wednesday's Holy Week Mass.

SCRIP Program

Not familiar with the SCRIP program? It's an incredible way to support St. Paul Catholic High School and for you to earn discounts on your student tuition just by purchasing gift cards to pay for your everyday shopping or as gifts. This program is not required but highly recommended.

Purchase gift cards for gifts or for your everyday shopping. Retailers provide % rebates back to the school. Once you earn $250 in gift card rebates for St. Paul, YOU then earn credit towards your family SCRIP rebate that can be applied to tuition. (Rebates are calculated by the discount percentage per merchant - i.e. Stop & Shop @ 4% x $100 purchased = $4.00 earned).*

1) View the list of SCRIP retailers SPCHS carries in-house by downloading this order form. If you are interested in ordering, drop off the completed order form in the main office.

2) If you would like to shop online through the SCRIP programs website you can do that too (many more retailers to choose from)! Click here to get started and order online,
once there click on Join Your Existing Program and enroll with St. Paul Enrollment Code: DCACE4AC14275

All SCRIP orders placed by the above options will be filled on Wednesday's and sent home with your student!

3) Order online and print from your home printer OR use for online purchases. This is called SCRIPNow. Use the same
St. Paul Enrollment Code: DCACE4AC14275 and use immediately! No orders sent home with students.
If you have any questions regarding SCRIP, please email scrip@spchs.com
