President's Message for November
November 3, 2016
God of all creation,
You give us the gift of seasons to mark our journey through time.
The season of autumn, with its change of colors
falling leaves, reminds us that sometimes things must
die and fall away for a new life to arise.
Such is the message of the cross ---
That through death to self we find life in all its richness.
Help us to trust in you and in your presence of new life.
Peter Jarret, C.S.C.
Peace and Greetings:
Seasons give our lives rhythm and meaning. November marks
autumn's end approaching and how simply the trees let go of the riches of a season. In addition to nature's seasons, t
he Catholic Church also celebrates liturgical seasons. All Saints and All Souls Days usher in November and remind us to reflect upon those great men and women of the Church who have gone before us as well as our family and friends who have touched our lives before entering eternal life themselves. Appropriately, the month closes with Thanksgiving Day, a time to pause and gives thanks for all God has bestowed on each of us.
At St. Paul, the seasons are changing, as well, as the first marking period comes to a close tomorrow, the fall athletic season is winding down, we celebrated a beautiful Remembrance Mass on Tuesday, and give thanks every day for all the people God has brought together to make this faith community a truly special place.
This was certainly evident as we recently held our 50th Anniversary Gala at the Aqua Turf. It's always a special time and a gift when we are in the presence of our founding principal, Rev. Edmund O'Brien and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery, the original teaching religious order. We had alumni representatives from our first graduating class in 1970 to our last in 2016 and all in between. Thanks to our advancement staff, Shelley and Melissa, and their gala volunteer committee for a truly memorable evening.
Proceeds from the Gala went to support our 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign, Honoring Our Past - Shaping Our Future. Our renewed vision for St. Paul focuses not on what has been accomplished but instead on our potential for greatness. I extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who has made a pledge/gift towards our $2M Anniversary Campaign goal. To date, we have raised over $900,000 to establish a sustainable endowment, improve building security, enhance classroom technology and upgrade athletic/performing arts facilities. In October, you received a campaign giving package. If you haven't already, I ask that you prayerfully consider making a contribution possibly by calendar year-end for tax deduction purposes. Together, we remain committed to being a truly great Catholic high school, now and in the future.
We have a few notable events happening on campus in the next couple of weeks. I encourage you to attend a performance of our fall drama production, Anne of Green Gables on either Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12 at 7:30 pm or Sunday, November 13 at 2:00 pm. As always, it promises to be a terrific show.
We look forward to welcoming on Friday, November 18 over 500 grandparents for a special prayer service and reception in their honor. They are a source of wisdom and enrichment in our families and in our St. Paul community.
Our Placement Exam for the Class of 2021 will be held on Saturday, November 19 at 8:00 am. Please encourage prospective students in your home community to consider St. Paul Catholic for their high school experience. Nothing is more meaningful than current parents serving as ambassadors to others for our school.
Our Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church on Wednesday, November 23 at 11:00 am. You're invited to join us for this beautiful celebration of faith and thanksgiving. We have much to be thankful for at St. Paul!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
In the Spirit of St. Paul,
Cary M. Dupont '72
