     Artist's Bio

I grew up and graduated high school in Edinburg (county seat of Hidalgo County in the Rio Grande Valley). I attended Pan American University in Edinburg. I went on to earn my BFA degree in studio art at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, and have studied at the Art Institute in Memphis, Tennessee, and also at Texas State Technical Institute in Waco, Texas. I have taken several summer workshops in Ruidoso, NM, where I was fortunate to have studied under two aides to Fredrick Taubes, Jan Herring and Ruth Tears.

I have worked as a professional artist most of my married life. I was staff artist at KGBT-TV in Harlingen, Texas, (1956) Resident Artist at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas. When we moved to Waco I worked as a fashion illustrator for a chain of 35 stores headquarted in that town, (Cinderella). I taught painting and figure drawing at McLennan Community College and went on to teach life drawing and fashion illustration at Baylor University, Waco, Texas.

My area of specialty has always been figure and portrait painting and thus my interest in character study. Elements of observation and problem solving in the arts are closely related. I have enjoyed the challenge of painting portraits with words as well as the usual visual media.

It is important to note that although Peggy worked in the visual art field she has also written a novel.  She lived her life in Texas, growing up on the border. In her novel, In Another Country , she writes about situations she is familiar with because, as she says, "We lived them."
