What A Year!!!
What do you get when you combine the best student body in the world with the best teachers in the world? You get a school year like we just wrapped up at SPP. 2016-17 was full of awards and accomplishments. Here's a few of the highlights:
  • SPP enrolled students from 24 countries this year, including the first students from Iran and Pakistan. Sashpa was the first female Pakistani F-1 student to attend high school in the U.S., and Leila was the first female Iranian student at SPP.
  • 56 seniors graduate from SPP tonight, June 9. These graduates have been offered 92 acceptance letters from renowned universities across the globe.
  • Math and Engineering instructor Bonnie Larson was named the Minnesota Independent School Forum Honor Teacher of the Year for 2016-17
  • Five SPP teachers and their classes teamed up for a STEM grant to study the Mississippi River watershed using aerial and underwater drones, statistics, and data collection to report to the Friends of the Mississippi database.
  • SPP received accreditation renewal from AdvancED in May 2017. SPP received high marks in embracing of diversity, personalized, higher order thinking, and creating a learning culture for all students to be successful.
  • The Falcons boys soccer team was first in the final Twin Cities Athletic Conference (TCAC) standings and took runner-up in the conference tournament.
  • The Falcons math team placed second in the St. Paul City Mathematics Competition, including a second place individual finish by Jiyun.
  • The Falcons table tennis teams participated in the state tournament in March 2017, taking home two trophies for consolation champions.
  • SPP Robotics team received a $3000 grant from Cray Computers for the robotics competition.
A Saintly Evening
May 26 was a SPP Night Out at the St. Paul Saints game! Our neighbors in Lowertown lost, but the fireworks after the game made sure everyone was a winner!

A Fair Time In The Valley
Mr. Wiggin put out the plea for students to sign up for the annual "End of Finals SPP Night Out" at Valleyfair, and they responded! 60 students and 5 SPP staff rode the rides, played games, and had a great time at Minnesota's largest amusement park on Tuesday, June 6. A great time had by all!
Goldberg. Rube Goldberg
Mr. Grundmanis had his STEM class construct Rube Goldberg machines earlier this week. While nobody's contraption made breakfast or fed the dog, students used their STEM knowledge to build their projects and learned a lot along the way!

It's Fun To Stay At The....
Students sticking around Minnesota over the summer can become members at the YMCA...FOR FREE! High schoolers get access to the gyms, pools, fitness center, and more, all for free!

Interested? Visit your local YMCA from June 1-12 to fill out an application. Click here for more information.
The Wheels On The Bus....
Metro Transit is offering a Summer Student Bus Pass for $25! From June 1 through Sept. 5, students can get unlimited rides on buses and trains up to a $3 fare (for fares higher than that amount, like some Northstar trips, just add stored value to your pass). Passes can be used between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.

The pass is available to students enrolled at a participating school (one per student). To purchase a pass, you must provide your school's name and your student ID number (see Ms. Ginger for your ID #). Graduating seniors may purchase a Summer Student Pass if they were enrolled in a participating school in 2017. Participating students must agree to Metro Transit's Code of Conduct. You may purchase these passes online at Metro Transit or at any Metro Transit store. Sales begin May 17. See Ms. Ginger with questions.
Leavin' On A Jet Plane...
Are your students returning to SPP this fall? Do they have items they don't want to bring back to their home country? Store them at SPP!

For a fee, SPP will securely store clothes, shoes, etc., for the summer so students don't have to haul items back and forth between countries!

We charge $50 for a backpack, small box, or small duffel bag, and $75 for a suitcase, large box, or large duffel bag. Bags and boxes must be completely closed (not overstuffed), and no loose items are allowed. No food or flammable/hazardous materials will be accepted.

NOTE: Students must collect the item no later than the first day of school (Tuesday, Sept. 5). Students will be charged $25 a day each day an item is not picked up, until Sept. 8, when the item will be donated. NO EXCEPTIONS!

If interested, complete a summer storage form and pay the applicable fee with Ms. Ginger at the SPP front desk.
Have a Great Summer!!!
