Santa Rosa County is developing a master site plan to improve and expand Benny Russell Park and needs your feedback! A public meeting will be held on Tues., May 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the
Pace Community Center in the Santa Rosa SportsPlex, 5976 Chumuckla Hwy.,
to engage the community and identify preferred park facilities, desired amenities as well as reveal any issues or concerns that may influence the park planning and design process
Benny Russell Memorial Park, located on approximately 30 acres, currently offers the following amenities:
- Paved access from Rolyat Road
- Paved parking
- Restroom/conference/concession building
- Picnic pavilions
- Playground for all abilities
- County sheriff deputy residence
Public input is vital to this project's success. Those who cannot attend may submit comments through a
community input survey
. A few of the proposed topics have included a skateboard park, pickleball/tennis/basketball courts, football field, splash pad, walking trails and a YMCA community recreational center.
"I look forward to seeing you at the public input meeting so I can listen to your ideas on how we can work together to enhance Benny Russell Park for all our residents," said District 1 Commissioner and Vice Chairman Sam Parker.
Genesis, a consulting firm specializing in park planning, landscape architecture and civil engineering will assist the county with the project.
A land survey and maps showing the park's location will be on display to support discussions. Using the feedback from the public meeting and survey, Genesis will prepare a preliminary master plan as basis for a second community workshop and review session to be held at a future date and time.
