UF/IFAS Extension offers coastal shoreline restoration class
Want a firsthand look at coastal restoration in northwest Florida? UF/IFAS Extension is offering a three-day course in coastal shoreline restoration, October 17, 18 and 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Santa Rosa County Extension, 6263 Dogwood Drive, in Milton. The $175 fee includes field trips, classroom training and materials. Register online by October 12.

This course, part of the  Florida Master Naturalist Program (FNMP), is of special interest to shoreline property owners who want to learn about alternatives to seawalls and other erosion control methods, organizations interested in planning coastal shoreline restoration projects, and volunteers who want to assist with coastal restoration projects. It provides training in the restoration of living shorelines, oyster reefs, mangroves, and salt marsh, with focus on ecology, benefits, methods, and monitoring techniques.
