Thank you for coming out to the first Coffee with Campbell for the school year. It was a pleasure meeting new, returning and prospective parents. Our next coffee with Campbell date has been changed from Thursday October 4 th  at 7:30 am to Thursday October 18 th  at 7:30 am.

Curriculum Night, Title I Parent Input Meeting, and PTA Meeting
Curriculum Night is Monday, September 17, 2018, at 6:00 pm. We will begin in the Gymnasium. Parents will follow the 7-period day of the student’s schedule. Each class period will last seven minutes with three minutes of transition time between each period. Students will bring home a copy of their schedule on Friday, September 14, 2018. During each class period teachers may review topics such as classroom expectations, content covered, grading policy, help sessions and contact information.
The Title I Parent Input Meeting and the PTA Meeting will be held before Curriculum Night at 5:30 pm. We hope to see you there!
New Bus Tracking App:
Beginning September 17, Fulton County Schools will offer a free app that allows parents to track their student’s school bus . "Here Comes The Bus” uses GPS technology to locate and track a school bus. Similar to ride-sharing apps, buses will show up as an icon on a map, and they can follow its progress as it moves toward the bus stop. The system also counts down the minutes before the bus arrives. SSCMS Homecoming:
SSCMS HOMECOMING WEEK will be Monday, September 24 th  to Friday, September 28 th  as we get ready to celebrate and support our Fall Sports Teams! We will have some spirit-filled activities this week to show support towards our student athletes while wishing them victories at their football games on Saturday, September 29 th . During Homecoming week, students will have a chance to show PRIDE by wearing spirit-themed attire to school. On Friday we will culminate our week with a pep rally and a dance. Look for more details to come!
Science Fair, Apply Now:
Students, are you interested in creating your own Science Fair Project? Would you like to be the next inventor? Well, it is time to begin thinking about your Science Fair project. Sign up to participate in the Sandy Springs Charter Middle School Science Fair. If you are interested in applying, go to online application here . Please hurry, the deadline for application submission is Next Wednesday, September 19th.
Sign Up for International Night:
Are you proud of your heritage? Would you like to share it with the SSCMS community? Then sign up to represent your country for International Night on November 13 ! Interested, send an email to  Ms. Zimmerman  and you will receive more information.
Yearbooks Picture Day is THIS Week!

Tennis Tryouts
STEAM Team
The 6 th  grade STEAM Team completed their 1 st  STEAM challenge for the year on Tuesday, September 11th. Students had to design and create a two story structure that could withstand an earthquake. 
 
The students also listened to guest speaker, Travis Vickers of Boggs Vickers Architecture and Interior Design. Mr. Vickers spoke to the class about architecture and the careers available as a field. A huge thank you to Mr. Vickers, the students had a fantastic time!
Band Notes

All-State registration has begun . Deadline for your child to register is September 28. All 7th and 8th grade students have been given the audition materials.

Extra Amazing Extra-Curricular Activities
8th Grade Savannah Deposit Due Date Extended to 9/17:
To ensure your child's spot on the trip, please register your student as soon as possible. A $150 deposit is due with registration by September 17th online or via mail through www.son-tours.com registration code SSC19 . If there is an issue with cost, please let Mr Hicks know. Student Government :
Winners of this year’s SGA Officers and Ambassadors will be announced on Tuesday, September 18 th  during Morning Announcements. Please note that our very first SGA meeting will be held on Thursday, September 20 th  from 4:15pm to 5:15pm in Mrs. Williams’ room (F142). Please arrange parent pick-up in advance. Email Mrs. Williams with questions.
Academic Bowl
The SSCMS Academic Bowl Team will be meeting every Thursday morning at 7:45am in Ms. Rolader's room. All students are welcome to attend the practices to see if it is something they would like to participate in for the year. 
HOSA Update
The first student body HOSA meeting will be held Next Tuesday morning at 7:45am in A-157. This meeting is for students who have paid HOSA membership dues, payment for Fall Rally is due Monday, September 17th. ($55 cash only).
All Stars Braves Visit:
This past Thursday, our After-School All-Stars had a special visit from Atlanta Braves player, Ender Inciarte. Inciarte has partnered with KRā for Play and Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School to provide sports equipment for the All-Stars program and SSCMS. We received many great donations that will help our students to be active and build team spirit.
 
Inciarte briefly spoke to all students and then met each student individually. Students took home a gift bag with some great items from KRā, Bombas, MLB, and Adidas. Several of the students were interviewed by Fox Sports South! This was an exciting event for SSCMS and the After-School All-Stars program! ..

Volleyball Update From Coach Weigand: Congratulations to the Lady Stallions volleyball team as they have started off the season with two wins. The “A” team beat Holy Spirit in two games with some great serving. Wednesday, the girl’s “A” team defeated Atlanta International School in an epic battle. Sandy Springs lost the first match in a heart breaking 24-26 loss. The second match, the girls fought back from a 11-19 deficit to win 25-21. The third match went back and forth, but we were able to pull out the victory 15-13. The “B” team also put up a great match, winning the first match 25 – 18, but lost match two and three. The girl’s team continues to improve and will be a dominate force in the coming weeks.Come out and cheer on your Lady Stallions next. Tuesday, away at Ridgeview Middle School, and home games Wednesday against Globe (B team only) and Thursday against Galloway.

Jr Spartan Softball: Snagged a late lead and defeated Ridgeview 10-4 on Tuesday. The Spartans came out with their A game but the Raiders came back to tie it up at 4 all at the top of the 4th Inning. In the 5th our Spartans pulled away for good to continue undefeated status another day. Come out Saturday for a double header at Morgan Falls Field 3. The team takes on Roswell at 11:40, then St Jude at 1:40.

Soccer: C ome out and cheer for our Coed Soccer Team on Friday 9/14 against our rivals Ridgeview at home on the SSCMS soccer field at 5:30. Our boys team played at Ridgeview on Tuesday and had a heartbraking loss in the last seconds of the game with a score of 4-5. Ridgeview must have had 50-60 kids watching in their stands!
