Downtown Development -
Downtown Community Improvement Plan & Financial Incentive Programs

The City's Downtown revitalization strategy seeks to encourage new private sector investment into existing buildings throughout the Downtown area. As well, to compliment potential private sector investment, the City is seeking to cultivate a 'sense of place' that instills a feeling of safety, age-friendliness, and promotes opportunities for social gathering and interaction. This sense of place will be achieved through targeted investments in streetscape amenities such as boulevard improvements, furniture, plantings and waste receptacles.

To view the Downtown Community Improvement Plan (DCIP), which proposes a series of initiatives aimed at revitalizing the Downtown area and to learn about financial incentive programs available to catalyze private sector investments downtown, visit the Downtown Development page on the City of Sault Ste. Marie website.
Grants are available for facade improvements, interior building renovations, and professional design work.
