Be Unique - Be a Leader - Be Aquinas
Knightly News - August 20, 2017
Principal's Post

We have completed our first week of school and are heading into our first 5-day week. The school year started off tremendously for STA. The teachers and staff were prepared and the students were amazing. I have received many positive comments from several students. Here are a few quotes:

“This was the best first day of school ever!”

“This is a new Aquinas! The technology is impressive.”

“I love my Spanish class. I can’t wait to go again.”

In addition to the students, the About Magazine Readers Choice Local Favs are out and we are it! St. Thomas Aquinas has been chosen as the Favorite school!

Please consider joining the Knight Nation Athletic Club (KNAC). The KNAC is the official booster club for St. Thomas Aquinas Athletics . Membership forms can be found online or contact Ryan Hill, St. Thomas Aquinas Athletic Director, for more information.

In the Gospel today, Jesus asks his apostles, “Who do you say I am?” I find that this is an important question for me to answer. I not only answer it by what I say, but by what I do, how I treat others, and how I spend my time, talents, and treasure. Is Jesus the center of my life, or merely on the periphery of my existence? I encourage everyone in the STA family to reflect upon this question during the upcoming week. Also, I ask for continued prayers that the Holy Spirit will continue to transform St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Middle School into the school he desires us to become.
St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for us.

Campus Ministry
Campus Ministry would like to reach out to our alumni and offer a card of support or prayer. Parents can email me their child's address who might have just moved away to college, or started a new job, got married, had a baby, or even someone who needs prayers due to health issues or might be grieving. We want to remind our alumni that they matter and we think of them and continue to pray for them.

Parents can email Mrs. Michelle May at mmay@youngstowndiocese.org

Why Catholic Education? Why Aquinas?
An STA Family's Perspective - by Karen and Brian Bostrom:

  • No do-overs – The early years of life are when the foundation of the future are laid. Why not provide the most enriching experience you can give your child during the most important time of life?

  • The investment – with a catholic education, teachers and families have the same goal - to provide an environment surrounded by polite, welcoming, nurturing, kind, generous, respectful, and caring young people.

  • Athletics – It was important to us that our son participate in sports (not just be on the team). Catholic school coaches raise the bar with high expectations and experiences that transcend into real life – teamwork, respect, and striving for excellence. This is the place where the whole is truly greater than the parts.

  • Family –Real life is ebbs and flows. When there is a crisis, we are all affected, we all come together immediately to provide healing, prayers and support. It truly does “take a village” and the village is in our Catholic schools.

  • Academics /College Prep – After researching academics with parents of graduates, they said that their children were “very academically prepared” entering college. We wanted a school with great teachers and our child in an environment with other college bound students which we found at the high school level at St. Thomas Aquinas.

  • Community Service – Giving back is what life is all about, and our Catholic Schools show our students the way in volunteering and that there is a bigger world around them. For example: LeBron James came from a Catholic School. He is an inspiration and a such an incredible role model in giving back to others!

Ways to Support STA
St Thomas Aquinas High School is partnering with Schoola ( www.schoola.com ).

What’s Schoola? It’s a great way to raise funds for our school. Schoola collects pre-loved women's and children’s clothes, preps and sells them online, and gives 40% of the proceeds (minus the cost of inbound shipping) back to St Thomas Aquinas High School to help fund programs for our kids. That’s $2 out of every $5 earned back to our school! Simply click on the image to view our very own Schoola landing page where you can request a bag and view our progress and funds earned

The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases to St. Thomas Aquinas High School & Middle School to help fund programs for our students. Every little bit counts, donations quickly add up.

It's easy! Type smile.amazon.com and log into your Amazon.com account. Select St. Thomas Aquinas High School (yes the Middle School benefits too!), Louisville, OH. That's it. Now whenever you make a purchase STA benefits.

Thank you for your support!

Don't forget to forward this to your family and friends! And encourage them to  sign up  to receive their own copy of this email blast.
