Be Unique - Be a Leader - Be Aquinas
Knightly News - January 21, 2018
"Catholic education occurs in welcoming, inclusive, and connected communities . Our schools seek to provide a genuine, safe and caring experience of community , to encourage students to appreciate the intrinsic worth of who they are , to value diversity and treat each student with dignity, enabling them in turn to promote and respect the dignity of all" (Catholic Education, Diocese of Cairns, 2018).
Principal's Post

This past Friday, 11 STA students, a teacher, and I traveled overnight on a bus to our nation’s capital to take part in the March for Life. It was a great day which started with mass in the Capital One Arena with Bishop Murry and about 18,000 other marchers. Following mass we toured the the Holocaust Museum, attended the Rally for Life on the National Mall, and then took part in the March for Life. Finally, we hiked down to Union Station where we got some food and met our bus for the long bus ride home. It was a long, tough 27 hours, but it was worth it to join with others from throughout the United States to voice our opposition to abortion.

On Saturday, St. Thomas Aquinas hosted a basketball game of special athletes between the Royal Knights and the Columbiana Comets. STA cheerleaders provided encouragement for both teams and our students and parents came out in support. It was a great game and a great event. The love, enthusiasm, and competitiveness these athletes displayed is something that we all could strive to emulate.

Upcoming events include the Alumni Memorial Mass on Saturday, January 27, and the Chili Cook-off on February 3.

Please continue to pray for God’s will to be done at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Middle School.

Have a great Aquinas week!

St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for us.

Alumni Memorial Mass
Notes from Campus Ministry
Mrs. Michelle May is our Campus Minister and has worked at St. Thomas Aquinas since 2010. She assists with the faith and leadership development of our students through planning school Mass, prayer services, retreats, blood drives, and service opportunities throughout the year.

Service Hours
Service hours for our high school students, can be recorded to MyStudentsProgress (MSP). Students should use their own account (not the parent account) to record the hours. Go to the MSP website, click the menu tab and click on volunteer hours and add all service opportunities and description. Once hours are added, Mrs. May will approve them. Students should keep a written record of their own service hours, as well.

Weekly Mass
Each week students come together to worship and celebrate morning liturgy with a rotating schedule of the whole school, middle school, freshman/sophomore and junior/senior. Parents are welcome to join, please call the school for the Mass time for that week.

Pop tabs
Don't forget to save your aluminum can tabs for The Ronald McDonald House. This collection benefits the House and the families of children who stay. Students can bring in the tabs to Mrs. May’s office. The Right to Life visits the Ronald McDonald House and drops off the pop tabs at the end of the school year.

Service Opportunities
St. Joseph Care Center is looking for students to help residents play games on tablets and assist residents with a program call “Music and Memory”. Emmaus House, a community for retired priests, is looking for volunteers once a week to assist with various tasks. Students can talk to Mrs. May about these opportunities during their study hall and pick up a permission slip.

Retreats
Seniors are encouraged to pick up an information pack, in the Attendance office for the Kairos retreat that will be held on February 18-20, 2018.

This year 29 STA students start their school day together taking college level English and Psychology classes at Walsh University then return to STA for the rest of the day. The best part is they are all in class together!

Freshman Class Officers go above and beyond for the retired priests at Emmaus House before the holidays. They got together and baked cookies from scratch and delivered them. They received a beautiful card letting them know the priests enjoyed their cookies.

Ways to Support STA
St Thomas Aquinas High School is partnering with Schoola ( www.schoola.com ).

What’s Schoola? It’s a great way to raise funds for our school. Schoola collects pre-loved women's and children’s clothes, preps and sells them online, and gives 40% of the proceeds (minus the cost of inbound shipping) back to St Thomas Aquinas High School to help fund programs for our kids. That’s $2 out of every $5 earned back to our school! Simply click on the image to view our very own Schoola landing page where you can request a bag and view our progress and funds earned

The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases to St. Thomas Aquinas High School & Middle School to help fund programs for our students. Every little bit counts, donations quickly add up.

It's easy! Type smile.amazon.com and log into your Amazon.com account. Select St. Thomas Aquinas High School (yes the Middle School benefits too!), Louisville, OH. That's it. Now whenever you make a purchase STA benefits.

Thank you for your support!

Don't forget to forward this to your family and friends! And encourage them to  sign up  to receive their own copy of this email blast.
