第三十九屆Buckboard Day花車遊行, 將於今年10月22日周六上午九點在羅蘭崗Colima大道舉行. 今年的遊行主題是 "羅蘭崗 - 是為孩子們打造最好的社區".

STC NewsAIR Creates Bridge to Asian Real Estate Sector

Recognizing that the impact of the Asian market on the Southland's commercial real estate scene is "about to soar", the AIR Commercial Real Estate Association has taken a bold step to "bridge" the gap between mainstream and Asian realty communities.
In an innovative first step, the AIR, in concert with two of its leading Asian members, conducted a lively networking and information session recently which attracted over 70 members of the Asian real estate community, including brokers, bankers, appraisers, and mortgage bankers. Held at the STC Center in the City of Industry, the event was hosted by John Hsu, principal of STC Management, along with AIR Board Member Joe Lin, Principal and Senior Vice President of Lee & Associates - Ontario, who served as event organizer. "We consider the meeting a huge success because it attracted a diverse group over twice the number we expected. While we targeted brokers, we found that, among others, lenders and appraisers are also very interested in AIR's services, including its property data. We're hoping to bring together Asian investors with AIR, an established industry group. It's really an investment in one another," said Hsu. Lin underscored that the meeting was important because the Asian influence in Southern California's real estate market is "about to soar". "This was a pioneering move by the AIR and the Asian community because it's the first time such a meaningful outreach to this community has been achieved. John and I are trying to bridge the gap and believe the bridge now exists. This is vital because the influence of the Asian community on the export-import business will require a substantial amount of space in the future," Lin said. He explained that in the past, Asians have typically gone through friends and relatives to gain market
knowledge. "Too often the sources of real estate data for Asians was word of mouth and unreliable. So, there's a crying need for reliable data. Now they realize that there is a non-profit, professional organization - AIR - that offers reliable market data resources to Asians and that is not out to pick their pockets. AIR is striving to provide the data and the Asian real estate professionals to carry that data to their Asian clients," Lin said. He added that more Asians now know about AIR and could provide a major boost to the Association's membership while enjoying the benefits of AIR's "Rules of Professional Conduct" and dispute resolution programs. Addressing the Asian gathering, Tim Hayes, Executive Director of AIR, provided an overview of the Association and explained why attendees should consider membership. "This was AIR's entree into the significant Asian real estate sector. It was our goal to reach out and build relationships with the Asian community because of their growing impact on the market. We described several of AIR's services to the group, including our CDX property data system, and our over 50 standard commercial real estate forms. This was a very positive first step in what I hope will be a long-term relationship with the Asian real estate community. The relationship will benefit both groups. I want to personally thank John and Joe for their diligent efforts in making this meeting a reality," Hayes said. Back to top

Get Ready to ShakeOut!

10:20 a.m. on October 20, 2011, millions of Californians will "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" in The Great California ShakeOut, the largest earthquake drill ever! Everyone is encouraged to participate in the drill wherever you are at 10:20 a.m. on 10/20!
Major earthquakes may happen anywhere you work, live, or travel in California. The ShakeOut is our chance to practice how to protect ourselves, and for everyone to become prepared. The goal is to prevent a major earthquake from becoming a catastrophe for you, your family, and your community.
Why is a "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" drill important? As with anything, to act quickly you must practice often. You may only have seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake before strong shaking knocks you down, or something falls on you.
More than 7.9 million Californians participated in the 2010 ShakeOut statewide. The Great California ShakeOut will be held on the third Thursday of October each year.
Everyone can participate! Individuals, families, businesses, schools, colleges, government agencies and organizations are all invited to register.

洛杉磯縣公共社會福利局為推廣全民營養健康的「糧食券計劃」，首度於10月12日(週三)向華裔社區居民呼籲，去年已將原本「食物券」(Food Stamp)擴大服務範圍、降低申請條件並改名稱為「糧食券」(Cal Fresh)，由於華裔申請人數低於1%，該局重申「糧食券」不是救濟而是福利，也不會影響申請公民等權益，歡迎符合條件的華裔民眾善用申請。
當天洛縣社福代理局長絲比勒(Sheryl Spiller)表示，現在經濟不景氣，許多人失業，4年來，政府估計面臨飢餓邊緣的人口比過去增加三倍，改制的「糧食券」放寬限制，以提高低收入家庭營 養水準，保障其健康，實際數額從月收入1180元起，領取福利多少取決於個案情況。申請審核手續是30天之內，若是緊急者，三天之內就可收到。
她 也鄭重告知，許多民眾擔心領取「糧食券」後，會損失房子、車子、存款、申請公民資格，其實只要符合資格，絕對不會要求申請人歸還已領取的公共福利或影響移 民身份。 糧食計劃推廣處處長梁兆壘分析，近年金融風暴，許多中收入戶變為低收入戶，全美最大縣的洛縣有1000多萬人口，約有102萬人申請，但是華裔只有 3000多人，也就是1%不到，但預估至少華人至少應該比現在多一倍，但許多華人礙於面子，或是擔慮權益受損而不敢申請。他申明，「糧食券」是福利而不是 救濟，有需要的華人一定要突破心防，勇於申請。
申請方式有三種，第一、網上申請 www.dpssbenefits.lacounty.gov。 第二、全縣設有50多個據點，像是社區中心、學校等皆有服務郵寄或傳真。第三、由小型巴士改裝的公共社會福利局流動服務站，最近一次華、粵語諮詢，就在 10月22日角聲醫療中心，地點位於923 S. San Gabriel Blvd., San Gabriel, CA 91776。
申請者需帶加州執照或身份証、社安號碼、收入証明、公民或居留身份証明。有關詳情可參考網站http://dpss.lacounty.gov，或致電1-877-597-4777
華裔申請「糧食券」比率偏低

為推廣全民健康及營養，洛杉磯縣公共社會福利局（Depart. of Public Social Services， County of LA）12日在工業市（City of Industry）向華裔社區推廣「糧食券（Cal Fresh）計劃」。該局代理局長史碧珞（Sheryl L. Spiller）表示，該計畫是項福利，主要為提升洛縣低收入戶的平均營養水準、增加其購買食物的能力，以促進並保障低收入戶的健康，尤其在此經濟不景氣 的大環境下，更顯「糧食券」的重要性。
根據美國農業部（USDA）公佈統計數字顯示，過去4年來，缺乏足夠營養及食物的家庭平均約增加3倍，洛杉磯縣公共社會福利局推廣處處長梁兆壘 （Benny Liang）指出，加州目前失業率居高不下，洛杉磯縣更是全美最大的縣，總人口數約為1050萬，但領取「糧食券」的總數僅約102萬人，比率不到 10%，在全國50州內甚至只排名第46至47名。
