The 50th Anniversary Golden Graduates Class of 1964

Profiles: Reunion Sisters
Colleen Connaughton, Class of '09

Current position: Registered Nurse at SSM DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, MO

Education (institution and field of study): Saint Louis University, Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Class of 2013

Catch up with us. Tell us about your life since graduating from SUA? Since graduating from SUA, I went to SLU to study nursing for four years. At SLU, I was involved in campus ministry, the nursing honors society, and Greek life. I was also able to study abroad in Madrid, Spain one semester. I graduated in May of 2013 and am currently a staff nurse on a post-surgical floor at a hospital in Saint Louis.

How has SUA had an impact on your career or personal life? I first developed an interest in nursing when I was a junior at SUA during a career shadowing opportunity. Teachers and guidance counselors nurtured that interest as I started looking into colleges. I credit that early encouragement with my ability to find a career path that I love sooner than some of my peers.

Molly Connaughton, Class of '99

Current position: Principal of Mariemont Junior High School in Cincinnati, OH

Education (institutions and fields of study): John Carroll University: Bachelors of Arts in Middle Childhood Education ('03) and Masters of Educational Administration ('06), Xavier University: Administrative Licensure ('11) and Superintendent Licensure ('14)

Catch up with us. Tell us about your life since graduating from SUA? Since graduating from SUA, I attended John Carroll University in Cleveland for my Bachelors and Masters. I also began my teaching career there, teaching for three years. I then moved back to Cincinnati, where I taught for five years before making the transition to administration. I am currently in my fourth year as an administrator and my first year as a principal.

What is your fondest memory of SUA? When I think back, I remember with a smile lunch times with friends where we would grab a slice of pizza on LaRosa's Thursdays and go visit with the Sisters upstairs. I remember the first time I ever felt smart in a science class - with Mrs. Campbell, who always encouraged us to "Buck up and be a woman!" I remember falling in love with Shakespeare through Mr. Saelens in a way I never had before. I remember the annual walks - and still have the cozy t-shirt to prove it. I can also add to that list several times where I have run into St. Ursula girls since graduation - including our recent 15 year reunion.

SUA has been and continues to be a very special place for our family. With the recent birth of our first niece, Maddie, (daughter of our sister Katie '01) we are excited for the tradition to continue!
Recent Events

October 11th: Students, alumnae, and future bulldogs had a great time staffing the fluid station for the inaugural Queen Bee Half-Marathon. The station was on E. McMillan, right in front of SUA's gym. SUA was among the 1,500 volunteers, hundreds of spectators, and 4,000 participants. We're already looking forward to The Pig!

November 14th: Our first Bulldog Bands, BBQ & BYOB featuring Young Heirlooms and Gracie Willett '16 was a success! Thanks to the bands and almost 50 attendees for making it such a great night! We hope you'll join us next time as we definitely plan on doing it again!
SCHOOL NEWSSchoolNews
This year, the annual Canned Food Drive at St. Ursula Academy kicked off on October 20 with Megan Linz Jones '03, winner of Season 5 of the Amazing Race on CBS. For the next two weeks, students collected nonperishable food items, many even "trick or treating" for canned goods. In all, this "Amazing Race Against Hunger" netted 800 boxes of food and donations totaling over $2,300. The food was organized and then delivered to St. Vincent DePaul Society, Mercy Neighborhood Ministries, Little Sisters of the Poor, Open Door Ministries in Walnut Hills, and Madisonville Education and Assistance Center (MEAC).
