1st Alumnae Community Service Night = SUCCESS!
A special thank you to the SUA Alumnae Association and the generous volunteers who made and served a delicious meal to the residents of The Dana Home at Tender Mercies in Over-the-Rhine. Tender Mercies transforms the lives of homeless adults with mental illness by providing security, dignity, and community in a place they call home. We received a tour of their 6 properties and learned more about their wonderful work before serving a 'sloppy joe' dinner to the residents. We will most definitely return to serve again. Do you have a community service night idea? We would love to hear it! E-mail alumnae@saintursula.org

Alumnae Bowling Night Was A Blast!
A special thank you to all the alumnae that came out to bowl some strikes, eat some pizza and have some beverages! All of the time spent at Mergards and Stones Lanes as students still pays off! We hope you can make our next event put on by the SUA Alumnae Association Social Committee. Stay tuned for more details...

Alumnae Spotlight: Rachel Vacek '95
Rachel Vacek '95, head of University of Houston Libraries Web Services, has been selected as a 2014 Library Journal Mover and Shaker. Each year, Library Journal honors forward-thinking library professionals who are actively shaping the future of libraries. Rachel was recognized as an Innovator whose focus on applying novel approaches to web-based tools and services for the UH community reflects a transformation in the academic research library space. "I've been able to propose and implement innovative and sometimes crazy ideas," she says. "I love...bring[ing] together colleagues from both the campus and neighboring library communities," Vacek says. "I like to take an idea and show people my vision for what could be, how it benefits our users, and how it sets us apart from the average-and often boring-approach." Congratulations, Rachel, on movin' and shakin' the library scene! #SUAtrailblazer

Students Organize Blood Drive
Hoxworth Blood Center is always in need of blood donors, but this year the need is even greater. St. Ursula Academy students heard about the increased need and responded in a big way.

A blood drive, organized by Teresa Callahan of White Oak, Megan Huber of Delhi, and Tassy Taylor of Anderson was recently held at SUA. 60 students, two faculty, and a member of the St. Ursula community rolled up their sleeves to donate blood to help offset some of this critical shortage experienced by the Hoxworth Blood Center and the American Red Cross. Robbie Russo, SUA School Nurse, helped coordinate the event and is pleased that students are given the chance to examine their role within the community. "The drive reinforces the idea that each of us is interdependent and that we each have a responsibility to help one another. We all cannot do everything for everybody, but each of us can do something for someone."
