10 Day Look Ahead: Renewal Project Construction Activities

The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project, which will expand Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, rebuild Stanford Hospital, modernize Hoover Pavilion, and replace School of Medicine laboratories, is underway. Below is a summary of the Renewal Project's anticipated construction activities, hours of activity, and any affected lane or road closures over the next 10 days. New Stanford Hospital Facility
December 2012 - 2019

Work is under way to construct the new Stanford Hospital facility in order to accommodate advances in medical technology, increase capacity, and meet new seismic safety standards. The 824,000 square foot hospital includes 368 individual patient rooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment rooms, an expanded Emergency Department, new employee parking structure, five gardens, walking trails and a meditation room. The new hospital is expected to open for patient care in 2019.

What to expect this weekend (1/20 - 1/21) 
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 6 pm

Interior finish construction is expected to continue this weekend.
 
Weekday Work (1/22 - 1/26)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 8 pm for regular construction.
 
This week, the inside of the hospital is undergoing i nstallation of interior finishes such as ceiling, drywall, tile laying and painting will also continue, as well as lighting fixtures, kitchen equipment, medical equipment and elevators. Framing of the elevators in the lobby continues. 
 
Outside the hospital, structural steel erection continues in the bulk oxygen yard. Stairs continue to take shape by the promenade walkway and other site work is in progress. The pedestrian bridge between the new Stanford Hospital and the existing facilities at 300 Pasteur Drive continues to make progress. Installation of permanent roofing on the third floor garden continues to progress. Installation of new decking and landscaping on the Garage roof will also continue.

Interior finish construction is expected to continue next weekend.

New Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford 
August 2011 - 2017

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford is in the process of creating America's most technologically advanced, family-friendly and environmentally sustainable hospital for babies, children and pregnant women. The new hospital, which opened in December 2017, added 521,000 square feet of building space and 149 patient beds. Six new surgical suites, a nuclear medicine department, three new imaging units, four diagnostic units including a cardiac "hybrid" angiography suite, and more than 3.5 acres of healing gardens and green space were designed into the project. The surgical suites, along with the Ford and Emerald gardens are still under construction and will open in 2018.

What to expect this weekend (1/20 - 1/21)

Work will continue on the expansion site for interior finish construction on Saturday, 1/20.
 
Weekday work (1/22 - 1/26)
Hours of Construction Activity: 6 am to 8 pm for regular construction

Inside the building, work is scheduled to be complete in March 2018 on the ground level surgical suites. Furniture and equipment is largely complete, however installation continues in the Emerald and Ford gardens, the child life outdoor play area and in the ground floor surgical suites

Outside the building, the exterior work in the Emerald, Ford and Entry gardens continues with the completion of landscaping paving. Work on the outdoor play area of the child life room also continues on the 2nd floor.

The crosswalk on Quarry Road and Quarry Extension (near the construction trailers) will remain closed to accommodate deliveries and concrete pours near the perimeter of the construction site. A pedestrian detour is in place.  Access to the rear entrance of Packard Children's will remain open throughout construction although some egress detours will be in place.

Work will continue on the expansion site for interior finish construction on Saturday, 1/27.

School of Medicine BioMedical Innovations Building
January 2017 - Late 2019

The BioMedical Innovations Building (BMI) will be a state-of-the-art facility that fully supports the talent and vision of the School of Medicine to translate medical research discoveries into treatments and cures. The new building will be approximately 215,500 square-feet with four above-grade floors of research labs and light-filled gathering places, and a lower basement level with reduced functional square footage for utility support. A connective tunnel to other nearby research facilities is part of the proposed design.

No impacts are anticipated this weekend.

Weekday Work (1/22 - 1/26)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 5 pm for regular construction

A crane will be onsite to load materials into the basement on Tuesday, 1/23. Concrete placement is scheduled for Wednesday, 1/24.

Interior tunnel construction continues with steam & condensate, and electrical installation. Underground electrical work continues. Structural footing waterproofing and rebar installation continues. Storm drain work is complete. Ground anchor installation and testing is also complete. Underground plumbing installation continues.

What to expect next weekend (1/27 - 1/28
Hours of Construction Activity: 9 am to 5 pm for regular construction

No impacts are anticipated next weekend.

General Reminders

Motorists: please be mindful of sharing the road with bicyclists. 

 

Consider alternatives to driving, including Stanford's free Marguerite shuttle, biking, carpooling, and transit. Try the do-it-yourself commute planning tool.

 

Cyclists: please be mindful of sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians. Those who choose not to share the road and use the sidewalks must walk their bicycles.

 

Pedestrians: must use the new designated crosswalks on Welch Road. Jaywalking is illegal and especially unsafe in active construction areas. Thank you!
