10 Day Look Ahead: Renewal Project Construction Activities

 

The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project, which will expand Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, rebuild Stanford Hospital, modernize Hoover Pavilion, and replace School of Medicine laboratories, is underway. Below is a summary of the Renewal Project's anticipated construction activities, hours of activity, and any affected lane or road closures over the next 10 days. Please note that that the scope of work and dates of work are subject to change without notice, especially due to weather impacts.

Welch Road Utility Project

August 2011-September 2013

 

One of the first steps in the effort to expand Packard Children's Hospital and rebuild Stanford Hospital includes utility work and surface improvements. The Welch Road Utility Project includes: replacing utility services and information technology infrastructure along Welch and Quarry Roads to serve the new hospital facilities once they are built; the widening of Welch Road; replacement of sidewalks, curbs and gutters; planting of new street trees and installation of planted medians and street lighting.

 

Note: Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.

 

This week's activities:

 

What to expect this weekend (10/20-10/21)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 5:30 pm

 

Chilled water shut down will occur at the AMC on Saturday. Water will be shut off at 5 am and work should be completed by early afternoon. Work has been fully coordinated with operations, utilities, IT and related parties.

 

Weekday work (10/22-10/26)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 5:30 pm

 

Falk Building is confirmed for a chilled water shut down on 10/22.This has been coordinated with the School of Medicine.

 

Excavation work will continue for the communication vault work on outboard Welch Rd. This is occurring near the properties of 700 Welch, 730 Welch, 770 Welch and 900 Welch.

 

Trenching will also continue in the Welch/Quarry intersection. Some work may occur outside of the construction fencing. Flaggers will be present as needed and traffic will continue to have thru access.

 

A new pedestrian path is being created between 730-750 Welch for better routing between the outboard Welch properties.

 

Please be cautious of construction trucks entering the road. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.

 

What to expect next weekend (10/27-10/28)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 5:30 pm

 

No work is scheduled to occur next weekend.

 

New Stanford Hospital Facility (Make-Ready Site)

March 2012-March 2013

 

The New Stanford Hospital facility site prep (known as the 'Make-Ready' site) includes surface demolition and utility work on North Pasteur Drive, and the demolition of Parking Structure 3 and 1101 Welch in order to make way for the new hospital facilities. 

 

This week's activities:

 

What to expect this weekend (10/20-10/21)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 7 pm; nighttime work inside of Parking Structure 4 from 10 pm - 6 am

 

In Parking Structure 4, crews will be working Saturday 6am-10am and performing electrical work related to the exhaust fans in the northeast corner on all levels. All other fans will be operational.

 

Crews will also be working on the construction of a new valet parking lot in front of CCSR. No noise or traffic impacts as a result.

 

Weekday work (10/22-10/26)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 4 pm

 

In the evenings between 11pm-6am,in Parking Structure 4, the underground employee parking lot, concrete will be removed at level LL 3 related to the old gates/islands.  This work will be noise producing. Ear plugs will be made available in the elevator lobbies.

 

Construction for the temporary CCSR parking area will continue.

 

Storm and sewer trenching will continue in North Pasteur Drive near the exit to Parking Structure 3 (PS-3). Night work will continue as needed. Access will be maintained out of the garage at all times.

 

Promenade work continues.

 

What to expect next weekend (10/27-10/28)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 4 pm

 

No work is scheduled to occur next weekend.

  

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Expansion

September 2012-December 2016

 

The Packard Children's Hospital expansion, which will expand Packard's ability to care for children and expectant mothers, is underway. The new facility is scheduled to open in 2016.

 

This week's activities:

 

What to expect this weekend (10/20-10/21)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 3:30 pm

 

Excavation and off-haul will continue.

 

Rebar installation will occur at the north tunnel closure within the site.

 

Weekday work (10/22-10/26)

Hours of Construction Activity: 6 am - 6 pm

 

Excavation and off-haul will continue.

 

NW wall shoring and NW wall tieback work will be underway.

 

Work will occur in the intersection of Quarry Road and Quarry Extension. Some traffic lane changes will occur during this time to accommodate Make-Ready construction work. Flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic flow. Access will be maintained to the ED at all times.

 

Shoring and excavation work continues. Work in the utility tunnel is ongoing.

 

Utility work will continue near the Stanford Hospital & Clinics side of the Falk Building. Access to the Falk Building will be maintained at all times via the Stanford Hospital side of the building. Pedestrian detour signage is in place.

 

Access to the rear entrance of Packard Children's will remain open throughout construction.

 

What to expect next weekend (10/27-10/28)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 6 pm

 

Excavation work is scheduled to occur next weekend. Dirt will also be hauled from the construction site. 

 

Hoover Pavilion Modernization 

August 2011-July 2013

 

Construction is underway to restore Hoover Pavilion, the original Palo Alto Hospital, in order to accommodate modern medicine and create a cohesive expansion to the Medical Center campus.


This week's activities:

 

What to expect this weekend (10/20-10/21)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7am - 3 pm

 

Work is scheduled to occur this weekend on the Hoover Pavilion site.

 

Weekday work (10/22-10/26)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 4 pm

 

Interior improvements will continue throughout the floors of the Pavilion and nears completion.

 

Foundation work and wall forming will continue for the new parking garage on the Hoover Pavilion site. 

 

What to expect next weekend (10/27-10/28)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 4 pm

 

Work will likely continue on the Hoover Pavilion site next weekend.

 

General Reminders

 

Motorists: please be mindful of sharing the road with bicyclists. Cyclists who choose not to share the road and use the sidewalks must walk their bicycles.

 

Consider alternatives to driving, including Stanford's free Marguerite shuttle, biking, carpooling, and transit. Try the do-it-yourself commute planning tool.
