10 Day Look Ahead: Renewal Project Construction Activities

 

The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project, which will expand Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, rebuild Stanford Hospital, modernize Hoover Pavilion, and replace School of Medicine laboratories, is underway. Below is a summary of the Renewal Project's anticipated construction activities, hours of activity, and any affected lane or road closures over the next 10 days. Please note that that the scope of work and dates of work are subject to change without notice, especially due to weather impacts.

One Lane of Traffic on Inboard Quarry Rd to Close 10/30/13

 

At 12:01 am on Wednesday, 10/30, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital construction crews will close one lane of traffic on the inboard (Packard) side of Quarry Road between Welch Road and Quarry Extension.

One lane of the two-lane inboard road will remain open at all times. Two-lane traffic on outboard Quarry Road will not be affected.

This lane closure is necessary to accommodate future construction trailers onsite as part of the Packard Children's Expansion Project. This closure will remain in effect throughout construction.

New Stanford Hospital Facility 

December 2012- 2018

 

Work is under way to construct the new Stanford Hospital facility in order to accommodate advances in medical technology, increase capacity, and meet new seismic safety standards. The 824,000 square foot hospital includes 368 individual patient rooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment rooms, an expanded Emergency Department, new employee parking structure, five gardens, walking trails and a meditation room. The new hospital is expected to be completed in 2017 and open for patient care in early 2018.

Hours of Construction Activity: 9 am- 6 pm

 

Former Garden Entry/D Pod: Tunnel shoring work will continue.

 

New Hospital and Parking Garage: Foundation pile installation will continue for the new hospital facility; foundation work and utility installation will continue for the new parking garage.

 

Weekday work (10/28-11/1)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 6 pm

 

Former Garden Entry/D Pod: Tunnel shoring work will continue next week.

What to expect next weekend (11/2-11/3)
Hours of Construction Activity: 9 am - 6 pm

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Expansion

August 2011-December 2016

 

The Packard Children's Hospital expansion, which will expand Packard's ability to care for children and expectant mothers, is under way. The new 521,000 square foot facility will add 150 patient beds, more healing spaces, and the latest medical technology. The Packard expansion is scheduled to open in 2016.

What to expect this weekend (10/26-10/27)

Hours of Construction Activity: 8 am to 6 pm

 

No work currently scheduled for this weekend.

 

Weekday work (10/28-11/1)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 6 pm; night off haul from 4 pm-12 midnight; night work from 12:01 am until 6 am on Quarry Rd on 10/30 only.

 

On Wednesday, 10/30, at 12:01 am, the inboard lane of Quarry Road will close between Welch Road and Quarry Extension. Concrete barriers (K-Rail) will be placed to close off the lane. The inboard sidewalk will also close. The remaining inboard lane and two outboard lanes of traffic on Quarry will remain open. For more information, click here

 

Auger cast pile installation will continue for the next two weeks.

 

Two off hauls will continue between 4 pm and 12 midnight next week.

 

Rebar cage deliveries for auger cast piles will continue.  Work will begin to pour interior wall panels on Thursday, 10/31. No impact to the hospital is anticipated.

 

All drilling work is being closely coordinated with the hospital and is not anticipated to cause noise or vibration. The tower crane will be in use install rebar columns and formwork. 

 

Access to the rear entrance of Packard Children's will remain open throughout construction although some egress detours will be in place.

Hours of Construction Activity: 8 am to 6 pm

 

No work currently scheduled for this weekend.

  

General Reminders

 

Motorists: please be mindful of sharing the road with bicyclists. 

 

Consider alternatives to driving, including Stanford's free Marguerite shuttle, biking, carpooling, and transit. Try the do-it-yourself commute planning tool.

 

Cyclists: please be mindful of sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians. Those who choose not to share the road and use the sidewalks must walk their bicycles.

 

Pedestrians: must use the new designated crosswalks on Welch Road. Jaywalking is illegal and especially unsafe in active construction areas. Maps with new pedestrian crosswalks are available at www.SUMCRenewal.org. Thank you!
