10 Day Look Ahead: Renewal Project Construction Activities

 

The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project, which will expand Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, rebuild Stanford Hospital, modernize Hoover Pavilion, and replace School of Medicine laboratories, is underway. Below is a summary of the Renewal Project's anticipated construction activities, hours of activity, and any affected lane or road closures over the next 10 days. Please note that that the scope of work and dates of work are subject to change without notice, especially due to weather impacts.

750 Welch Driveway to Close 10/5-10/7

 

The driveway to 750 Welch Road will close at 7 am on Saturday, 10/5 in order to accommodate repair work. The driveway is scheduled to reopen at 9 am on Monday, 10/7. During this time, vehicles will be directed to the 770 Welch driveway in order to access the 750 Welch property. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

 

Stanford University Hot/Chilled Water Line Work near Quarry Road and Campus Drive

 

Stanford University will continue performing chilled and hot water line work near Quarry Road and Campus Drive. Regular work hours are Monday-Thursday from 7 am to 5:30 pm.

 

Work will begin at the intersection of Quarry Road and Quarry Extension and will continue down Campus Drive towards Roth Way. Safety officers will be onsite to provide traffic assistance.

 

New Stanford Hospital Facility 

December 2012- 2018

 

Work is under way to construct the new Stanford Hospital facility in order to accommodate advances in medical technology, increase capacity, and meet new seismic safety standards. The 824,000 square foot hospital includes 368 individual patient rooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment rooms, an expanded Emergency Department, new employee parking structure, five gardens, walking trails and a meditation room. The new hospital is expected to be completed in 2017 and open for patient care in early 2018.

What to expect this weekend (10/5-10/6)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am- 6 pm

 

Former Garden Entry/D Pod: Demolition and utility relocations may continue in the former MRI area.

 

New Hospital and Parking Garage: Construction activities will continue in the Hospital and parking garage footprints.

Weekday work (10/7-10/11)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 6 pm; 

night work on Monday, 10/7, near the former Garden Entrance of Stanford Hospital & Clinics

 

Former Garden Entry/D Pod: Demolition and utility relocations will continue near the former MRI; night work will occur on Monday, 10/7, to open the new egress door near the former Garden Entrance to the hospital.

 

New Hospital and Parking Garage: Shoring on the new hospital site will continue. Foundation work and utility installation will continue on the new parking garage site.

 

Off Site Activities: Limited dirt off- haul will occur as needed.

 

What to expect next weekend (10/12-10/13)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 6 pm

 

Former Garden Entry/D Pod: Demolition work will continue. Utility work may also continue next weekend.

 

New Hospital and Parking Garage: Construction activities will continue in the new hospital and parking garage footprints.

 

Off Site Activities: Limited dirt off haul will continue as needed. 

 

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Expansion

August 2011-December 2016

 

The Packard Children's Hospital expansion, which will expand Packard's ability to care for children and expectant mothers, is under way. The new 521,000 square foot facility will add 150 patient beds, more healing spaces, and the latest medical technology. The Packard expansion is scheduled to open in 2016.

 

This week's activities:

 

What to expect this weekend (10/5-10/6)
Hours of Construction Activity: 6 am - 7 pm 

 

Mat slab #7 will be placed early Saturday morning, 10/5, and is scheduled to be completed in the afternoon.

 

No work is currently scheduled for Sunday, 10/6.

 

Weekday work (10/7-10/11)
Hours of Construction Activity: 6 am - 7 pm; 
night work from 7 pm - 5 am

 

Shoring, excavation, rebar installation, slab waterproofing, concrete formwork, auger cast pile installation and bench cutting work will continue on the Packard expansion site next week. 

 

Rebar cages for auger cast piles will be delivered during the week.  All drilling work is being closely coordinated with the hospital and is not anticipated to cause noise or vibration. Tower crane will be in use to install rebar columns and formwork. 

 

Dirt off haul will continue during the week.

 

Access to the rear entrance of Packard Children's will remain open throughout construction although some egress detours will be in place.

 

What to expect next weekend (10/12-10/13)
Hours of Construction Activity: 6 am - 7 pm

 

Excavation, bench cutting, rebar installation and dirt off haul will continue on the Packard expansion site next weekend.

 

All drilling work is being closely coordinated with the hospital and is not anticipated to cause noise or vibration.

 

General Reminders

 

Motorists: please be mindful of sharing the road with bicyclists. 

 

Consider alternatives to driving, including Stanford's free Marguerite shuttle, biking, carpooling, and transit. Try the do-it-yourself commute planning tool.

 

Cyclists: please be mindful of sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians. Those who choose not to share the road and use the sidewalks must walk their bicycles.

 

Pedestrians: must use the new designated crosswalks on Welch Road. Jaywalking is illegal and especially unsafe in active construction areas. Maps with new pedestrian crosswalks are available at www.SUMCRenewal.org. Thank you!
