A Haven For Healing



Check out the progress on the patient room mockups in the new Stanford Hospital. Every detail of the facility has been meticulously planned to create an environment that promotes healing while reducing stress on patients, families and visitors. The single occupancy patient rooms will ensure patient privacy, comfort and safety and also include pull-out beds for loved ones to accommodate overnight stays. Construction of the new Stanford Hospital will be completed in 2018.

10 Day Look Ahead: Renewal Project Construction Activities

The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project, which will expand Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, rebuild Stanford Hospital, modernize Hoover Pavilion, and replace School of Medicine laboratories, is underway. Below is a summary of the Renewal Project's anticipated construction activities, hours of activity, and any affected lane or road closures over the next 10 days. New Stanford Hospital Facility
December 2012 - 2018

Work is under way to construct the new Stanford Hospital facility in order to accommodate advances in medical technology, increase capacity, and meet new seismic safety standards. The 824,000 square foot hospital includes 368 individual patient rooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment rooms, an expanded Emergency Department, new employee parking structure, five gardens, walking trails and a meditation room. Construction of the new hospital is expected to be completed in 2018.

What to expect this weekend (6/17-6/18
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 6 pm

Interior finish construction is expected to continue this weekend.
 
Weekday Work (6/19-6/23)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 8 pm for regular construction.
 
The installation of the exterior wall systems, as well as service and public elevators continues throughout the building. Inside the hospital, interior finishes like ceiling and drywall installation, framing, tile flooring installation, painting, and lighting fixture installation are underway. Kitchen equipment is being installed, as well as medical equipment delivery and installation is in progress on patient floors.  Final waterproofing and site grading activities around the perimeter of the project are close to completion. Final site grading in the Promenade and north side of the generator building is underway. Landscape walls on Hospital Level 3 are in progress and the perimeter railing installation is ongoing. The connections for exterior systems to the lobby are being installed. Rebar and formwork are in progress for the medical gas yard foundations. And final roofing on Level 8 has started.

Interior finish construction is expected to continue next weekend.

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford Expansion
August 2011-Summer 2017

The Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford expansion, which will expand the hospital's ability to care for children and expectant mothers, is underway. The new 521,000 square foot facility will add 149 patient beds, more healing spaces, and the latest medical technology. The hospital expansion is expected to be completed and open for patient care in 2017.

*General construction activity on the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford Expansion site is approved Monday-Friday 6 am to 8 pm, Saturday 7 am to 6 pm, and Sunday 7am to 5pm. Click here to view construction activity permitted outside of normal construction hours.
  
This week's activities:

What to expect this weekend (6/17-6/18)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 6 pm for regular construction
 
Work will continue on the expansion site for interior finish construction on Saturday, 6/17. Interior elevator work is expected on Saturday, 6/17 and Sunday, 6/18.
 
Weekday work (6/19-6/23)
Hours of Construction Activity: 6 am to 8 pm for regular construction

Inside the building, interior finish construction continues, including drywall installation, painting, door framing, ceiling and floor installation, and HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installation in the North and South Towers. Furniture installation in underway in the child life rooms, waiting areas and offices.

The crosswalk on Quarry Road and Quarry Extension (near the construction trailers) will remain closed to accommodate deliveries and concrete pours near the perimeter of the construction site. A pedestrian detour is in place.

Access to the rear entrance of Packard Children's will remain open throughout construction although some egress detours will be in place.

School of Medicine BioMedical Innovations Building
January 2017 - Summer 2019

The BioMedical Innovations Building (BMI) will be a state-of-the-art facility that fully supports the talent and vision of the School of Medicine to translate medical research discoveries into treatments and cures. The new building will be approximately 215,500 square-feet with four above-grade floors of research labs and light-filled gathering places, and a lower basement level with reduced functional square footage for utility support. A connective tunnel to other nearby research facilities is part of the proposed design.

Weekday Work (6/19-6/23)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 4 pm for regular construction

Tunnel construction continues with demolition of existing concrete, excavation and grading, and utility work.

Night work is expected for the tunnel shoring system installation.

Various utility work around the site continues.

What to expect next weekend (6/24-6/25
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 4 pm for regular construction

No impacts are anticipated next weekend.

General Reminders

Motorists: please be mindful of sharing the road with bicyclists. 

 

Consider alternatives to driving, including Stanford's free Marguerite shuttle, biking, carpooling, and transit. Try the do-it-yourself commute planning tool.

 

Cyclists: please be mindful of sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians. Those who choose not to share the road and use the sidewalks must walk their bicycles.

 

Pedestrians: must use the new designated crosswalks on Welch Road. Jaywalking is illegal and especially unsafe in active construction areas. Thank you!
