10 Day Look Ahead: Renewal Project Construction Activities

 

The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project, which will expand Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, rebuild Stanford Hospital, modernize Hoover Pavilion, and replace School of Medicine laboratories, is underway. Below is a summary of the Renewal Project's anticipated construction activities, hours of activity, and any affected lane or road closures over the next 10 days. Please note that that the scope of work and dates of work are subject to change without notice, especially due to weather impacts.

Stanford University Hot/Chilled Water Line Work near Quarry Road and Campus Drive

 

Stanford University will continue performing chilled and hot water line work near Quarry Road and Campus Drive. Regular work hours are Monday-Thursday from 7 am to 5:30 pm.

 

Work will begin at the intersection of Quarry Road and Quarry Extension and will continue down Campus Drive towards Roth Way. Safety officers will be onsite to provide traffic assistance.

 

New Stanford Hospital Facility 

December 2012- 2018

 

Work is under way to construct the new Stanford Hospital facility in order to accommodate advances in medical technology, increase capacity, and meet new seismic safety standards. The 824,000 square foot hospital includes 368 individual patient rooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment rooms, an expanded Emergency Department, new employee parking structure, five gardens, walking trails and a meditation room. The new hospital is expected to be completed in 2017 and open for patient care in early 2018.

What to expect this weekend (9/7-9/8)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am- 6 pm

 

New Hospital and Parking Garage:

Shoring work will continue on the New Stanford Hospital construction site.

Off Site Activities:

Soil will be off hauled from the site on Saturday, 9/7.

Weekday work (9/9-9/13)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 6 pm; 

night work from 6 pm-6 am near the former Garden entrance to Stanford Hospital & Clinics on 9/9 and 9/10

 

Former Garden Entry/D Pod:

Next week, night work will occur near the former Garden entrance of the hospital (near the cafeteria) on Monday, 9/9, and Tuesday, 9/10 to relocate the entry door. No significant noise/vibration issues are expected. Day work on the entry door relocation will continue through 9/14.

Utility work and tunnel pile installation will also continue next week.

 

New Hospital and Parking Garage:

Shoring and mass excavation work will continue. Foundation work will continue with test pile drilling.

 

Off Site Activities:

Deliveries will continue to the NSH team offices on Welch Road near Sand Hill Road. Dirt off haul from the NSH site will continue one day next week. Please be cautious of trucks entering and exiting the road.

What to expect next weekend (9/14-9/15)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 6 pm

 

Former Garden Entry/D Pod:

Work to relocate the doors near the cafeteria in the former Garden Entrance of the hospital will continue during the day on Saturday, 9/14.

New Hospital and Parking Garage:

Shoring work will continue on the site.

Off Site Activities:

Soil will be off hauled from the site on Saturday, 9/14. 
  

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Expansion

August 2011-December 2016

 

The Packard Children's Hospital expansion, which will expand Packard's ability to care for children and expectant mothers, is under way. The new 521,000 square foot facility will add 150 patient beds, more healing spaces, and the latest medical technology. The Packard expansion is scheduled to open in 2016.

 

This week's activities:

 

What to expect this weekend (9/7-9/8)

Hours of Construction Activity: 6 am - 7 pm

 

Shoring work will continue on the Packard expansion site on Saturday, 9/7.

 

Weekday work (9/9-9/13)

Hours of Construction Activity: 6 am - 7 pm; 

night work from 7 pm - 5 am

 

Shoring, excavation, rebar installation, auger cast pile installation and bench cutting work will continue on the Packard expansion site next week. All drilling work is being closely coordinated with the hospital and is not anticipated to cause noise or vibration.

 

The tower crane will be in use to continue installation of the rebar columns.  A concrete mat slab is scheduled to be poured on Friday, 9/13.

 

Dirt off haul will continue.

 

Access to the rear entrance of Packard Children's will remain open throughout construction although some egress detours will be in place.

 

What to expect next weekend (9/14-9/15)

Hours of Construction Activity: 6 am - 7 pm; 

night work from 7 pm - 5 am

 

Shoring, excavation, bench cutting and soil off haul will continue on the Packard expansion site on Saturday 9/14 and Sunday 9/15. All drilling work is being closely coordinated with the hospital and is not anticipated to cause noise or vibration.

 

Work to pour the concrete mat slab will continue on Saturday, 9/14.

 

Hoover Garage

May 2012-August 2013

 

Hoover Pavilion, the original Palo Alto Hospital, has been renovated and opened December 2012 to accommodate modern medicine and create a cohesive extension of the Medical Center campus. The garage will enable additional parking for patients and staff.

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 5:30 pm

 

Final parking garage construction will continue this weekend.

 

Weekday work (9/9-9/13)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 5:30 pm

 

The Hoover Pavilion garage will have a soft opening for limited A/C permit and authorized contractor parking in September. Patient parking will remain available at the Hoover Pavilion surface lot.

 

Final parking garage construction activities will continue.

 

Pavers will continue to be installed on the site.

 

What to expect next weekend (9/14-9/15)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am - 5:30 pm

 

Remaining work will continue on the Hoover parking garage site as needed.

 

General Reminders

 

Motorists: please be mindful of sharing the road with bicyclists. 

 

Consider alternatives to driving, including Stanford's free Marguerite shuttle, biking, carpooling, and transit. Try the do-it-yourself commute planning tool.

 

Cyclists: please be mindful of sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians. Those who choose not to share the road and use the sidewalks must walk their bicycles.

 

Pedestrians: must use the new designated crosswalks on Welch Road. Jaywalking is illegal and especially unsafe in active construction areas. Maps with new pedestrian crosswalks are available at www.SUMCRenewal.org. Thank you!
