10-Day Look Ahead: Renewal Project Construction Activities


The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project, which will expand Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, rebuild Stanford Hospital, modernize Hoover Pavilion, and replace School of Medicine laboratories, is underway. Below is a summary of the Renewal Project's anticipated construction activities, hours of activity, and any affected lane or road closures over the next 10 days. Welch Road Utility Project

August 2011-September 2013 

 

One of the first steps in the effort to expand Packard Children's Hospital and rebuild Stanford Hospital includes utility work and surface improvements on Welch Road. The Welch Road Utility Project includes: replacing utility services and information technology infrastructure along Welch and Quarry Roads to serve the new hospital facilities once they are built; the widening of Welch Road; replacement of sidewalks, curbs and gutters; planting of new street trees and installation of planted medians and street lighting.


Note: Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.


This week's activities:


Weekend work (8/26-8/28): day shift: 7 am- 4 pm; night work: 8 pm-5 am


Street tree removal planned 8/27; night utility work planned along Quarry and Welch Rd 8/27. This work will require traffic control measures. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.


Weekday work (8/29-9/2): 7 am-4 pm


Planned activities include continued site mobilization, survey work and staking along Quarry Rd (at Welch), fence installation at Pasteur triangle for contractor use; Quarry and Welch Road tree preparation and pruning for boxing and storage.; begin installation of global and regional construction signage across campus (will occur over the next two weeks).


Night work: (8/29-9/2): 8 pm-5 am


Preparatory utility-related trenching work will occur on Welch Rd and Quarry Rd. This will require some traffic control measures. Please be cautious of trench plates in the street during this time. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.

 

What to expect next weekend (9/2-9/4): 7 am-4 pm 

 

Street tree removal planned on Welch Rd 9/3; utility work planned along Quarry Rd and Welch Rd. This work will require traffic control measures. Please be cautious of trench plates in the street during this time. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.

 

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Expansion (Make-Ready Site)

August 2011-October 2012

  

The Packard Children's Hospital expansion site prep (known as the 'Make-Ready' site) includes the demolition of 701 & 703 Welch and the construction of a shoring wall and utility tunnel in preparation for the Packard Children's expansion.


Weekend work (8/26-8/28): day shift: 7 am- 4 pm; night work: 8 pm-5 am


Tree work planned 8/27.


Preparatory utility-related work will continue on Quarry Rd the evening of Sunday 9/2.  Traffic control measures will be in place. Please be cautious of trench plates in road. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.

 

This week's activities:

 

Weekday work (8/29-9/2): 7 am-4 pm 

 

Planned activities include: installation of new driveways to 730 and 750 Welch Rd. via Vineyard Lane (please note: no traffic changes will occur at this time); continued site mobilization, survey work and staking along Quarry Rd and Welch Rd, fence installation at the Falk lot; tree preparation and pruning for boxing and storage; preparation for utility work on outbound Quarry Rd.  

 

Note: the Falk lot bicycle racks and lockers will be relocated to the front of the Falk building as early as 9/5.  

 

Night work: (8/24-8/25): 8 pm-5 am

 

Preparatory utility-related work will occur on Quarry Rd. Traffic control measures will be in place. Please be cautious of trench plates in the road. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.

 

What to expect next weekend:  

 

Potential street paving to occur on Quarry Rd (at Welch) on 9/3.
Continued tree work planned 9/3.


Preparatory utility-related work will occur on Quarry Rd the evening of Sunday 9/4.  Traffic control measures will be in place. Please be cautious of trench plates in road. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times. 

 

Hoover Pavilion Modernization 

 August 2011-July 2013

 

Construction is underway to modernize and restore Hoover Pavilion, the original Palo Alto Hospital, in order to accommodate modern medicine and create a cohesive expansion to the Medical Center campus.


This week's activities:


Weekend work (8/26-8/28): No work planned


Weekday work (8/29-9/2): 7 am-4 pm


Continued site prep and interior demolition of Pavilion building; continued pruning, boxing and storage of trees; interior abatement work underway.


Night work: (8/29-9/2): 8 pm-5 am


No work planned.


What to expect next weekend (9/2-9/4): No work planned
