10-Day Look Ahead: Renewal Project Construction Activities


The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project, which will expand Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, rebuild Stanford Hospital, modernize Hoover Pavilion, and replace School of Medicine laboratories, is underway.

 

Below is a summary of the Renewal Project's anticipated construction activities, hours of activity, and any affected lane or road closures over the next 10 days. Welch Road Utility Project

August 2011-September 2013 


One of the first steps in the effort to expand Packard Children's Hospital and rebuild Stanford Hospital includes utility work and surface improvements. The Welch Road Utility Project includes: replacing utility services and information technology infrastructure along Welch and Quarry Roads to serve the new hospital facilities once they are built; the widening of Welch Road; replacement of sidewalks, curbs and gutters; planting of new street trees and installation of planted medians and street lighting. 


Note: Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.


This week's activities:


Weekend work (9/2-9/4): day shift: 7 am- 4 pm; night work: 8 pm-5 am

Street tree removal planned 9/3 and night utility work planned along Quarry and Welch Rd. This work will require traffic control measures. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.


Weekday work (9/5-9/9): 7 am-4 pm

Planned activities include continued site mobilization, survey work and staking along Quarry Rd (at Welch). Quarry and Welch Road tree preparation and pruning for boxing and storage. 


Night work: (9/5-9/9): 8 pm-5 am

Preparatory utility-related work will occur on Welch Rd and Quarry Rd. This will require some traffic control measures. Please be cautious of steel plates in the street during this time. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.

 

What to expect next weekend (9/9-9/11): 7 am-4 pm

Street tree removal planned on Welch Rd 9/10 and utility work planned along Quarry Rd and Welch Rd. This work will require traffic control measures. Please be cautious of steel plates in the street during this time. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.

 

Note:  Dates have changed related to the new driveways to be constructed via Vineyard into the 730 and 750 Welch properties. This work is now scheduled to begin on 9/12.

 

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Expansion (Make-Ready Site)

August 2011-October 2012

  

The Packard Children's Hospital expansion site prep (known as the 'Make-Ready' site) includes the demolition of 701 & 703 Welch and the construction of a shoring wall and utility tunnel in preparation for the Packard Children's expansion.


This week's activities:


Weekend work (9/2-9/4): day shift: 7 am- 4 pm; night work: 8 pm-5 am

Preparatory utility-related work will continue on Quarry Rd in the evenings.  Traffic control measures will be in place. Please be cautious of trench plates in road. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.


Weekday work (9/5-9/9): 7 am-4 pm

Fence installation to occur on 9/6-9/7 adjacent to the existing Packard parking structure at 725 Welch.  Temporary sidewalk installation to occur on 9/8-9/9 along the north and east side of the building, near the Bass Center. Tree preparation for boxing and storage will continue. 


Note: Dates have changed and are pending for the relocation of Falk lot bicycle racks, per last week's report.


Night work: (9/5-9/9): 8 pm-5 am

Preparatory utility-related work will occur on Quarry Rd. Traffic control measures will be in place. Please be cautious of trench plates in the road. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.


What to expect next weekend:
Pending permits, abatement to occur at 701 and 703 Welch.

Hoover Pavilion Modernization 

August 2011-July 2013

 

Construction is underway to modernize and restore Hoover Pavilion, the original Palo Alto Hospital, in order to accommodate modern medicine and create a cohesive expansion to the Medical Center campus.


This week's activities:


Weekend work (9/2-9/4):

No work planned


Weekday work (9/5-9/9): 7 am-4 pm

Continued site prep and interior demolition and abatement of building. Continued pruning, boxing and storage of trees. Tree removal will begin in order for placement of building scaffolding.  


Night work: (9/5-9/9): 8 pm-5 am

A crane will place two storage containers at the site on 9/6 at 7pm. 


What to expect next weekend (9/9-9/11):

No work planned
