New Innovation Award for SUS
SUS has been awarded $1,942,164 from the NYS Department of Health Balancing Incentive Program (BIP) Innovation Fund. SUS will use these funds to implement a "Transition to Independence Program" for adults with intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviors. Using the expertise of SUS and 53 other awarded providers, the state will help to identify how best to address barriers to transitioning from institutional to community-based settings, as well as how to support individuals who live in their own homes within the community. SUS to Expand Veteran Services
SUS has been selected to serve as the Administrative Services Organization (ASO) Provider for the NYC Veteran and Military Families Coordinated Network (NYC4RVETS). In this role, SUS will coordinate and deliver services, resources and care to New York City veterans and their families. Set to launch on October 15, 2014, NYC4VETS will help 3,000 unique veterans and their families ease and stabilize their transition into everyday life by providing access to benefits and services to which they are entitled. SUS was also recently awarded two additional Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF) grants that will begin operations next month, allowing SUS to provide short-term rapid rehousing and homeless prevention services to more homeless and at-risk veterans and their families. |
This week, SUS joins other organizations in celebrating Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week, which recognizes excellence and promotes awareness of the importance of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). We are thankful for the DSPs who are dedicated to helping the 750 individuals with intellectual disabilities served by SUS live up to their fullest potential by creating opportunities for meaningful relationships, full integration into their community and personal growth.
