Greetings!

We recently conducted a mid-season survey and the responses were overwhelming. Thank you to all that filled out the survey and for the many comments and thoughts you shared with us. We have summarized all the information and are reviewing several areas that were common themes amongst the membership. You will see some changes instituted over the next few months and into the Fall Season that reflect the views of our members. The coaching feedback was great as well, with 94% favorable comments. We have reviewed with some coaches that received less than favorable comments to help them improve. Many comments were about perhaps too many travel teams at the squirt and pee wee levels. Many comments were made that we do this for the "extra" money that travel costs. Most of you do not know, but it cost Sabre Hockey more money for travel teams than it does for a house team if you break it down by line item; therefore, it is actually better financially for the club to have more house teams. I wanted to dispel the myth that we are after your money.....we are not; we serve the membership and fill teams based on where kids tryout, travel or house, and their skill level. This is another area we will look at more closely and be more assertive in where we feel the skater's skill level is at so they have the best experience possible. Additionally, we will also look at number of skaters per team at the mite and squirt levels; several comments about this were made. Expect to see a few less kids per team at these levels to maximize ice time and puck touches going forward.
These are just a few of the items we will address based on member feedback. I wanted you all to know that we are listening and acting on your comments and ideas to improve the club. Thank you again for your help and hope to see you in the Spring/Summer as we roll out a few more improvements for our skaters. Look for Spring league information in the coming weeks as we finalize the Spring program this weekend.
Sincerely,
Jim Clare
President

Our Sabre Skaters look forward to the Award Ceremony video montage every year; it is definitely one of the highlights of the afternoon. We love hearing the teams hoot and holler when their team's photos appear.
We Need Your
Team Pics and Videos!!!!
There are two ways to get those special team moments to us:
1. Put your pics or videos on a disc or thumb drive and place in the managers' office in the folder labeled "Award Ceremony". We will check folder frequently. Please, please make sure that the each photo you include has your team's name in the photo title (e.g. BAA1.jpg, BAA2.jpg). Additionally, make sure you save your photos in the highest resolution possible as they are going on the big screen. 2. Email your photos (no videos, please; put those in folder at Rocket) to Jen Paras at jparas@sabrehockey.com. Again make sure the photo title includes team name and they are high resolution.
Deadline for submission is March 10th; any photos received after that may not be included. |
Top 10 Hockey Player
"February" Resolutions
Find out how to "kick some ice" this year and win your battles-lots of small victories add up to winning the big ones! Adapt whichever resolutions apply to you:
- Finish my checks-stay low and stay safe.
- Block a shot in every game.
- Work on positioning my shot 12 inches above the ice; it will go right over the goalie's pad.
- Skate hard the entire game-not just when I have the puck. This will change my game.
- Recite in my head, "Move a Mountain," to build mental toughness.
- Don't let anyone break my spirit and hang tough when I'm not playing as much as I want to; I'll get my chance.
- Make safe plays to gain more playing time; know that my coach wants reliability first and foremost.
- Improve my practice habits-because you play in games the way you play at practice.
- Fake a shot before letting a bomb go in the other direction. It works every time.
- Work on your backwards skating, defensemen. This is the key to D-make it your mission to beat everyone going backwards.
Bonus Resolution: Have fun playing the greatest game on earth!
Editor's Note: Thank you to Jeff Serowik, a former NHL player and founder/president of Pro Ambitions Hockey, for this story.

Responsible Sports Tips
WEEKLY PARENT TIP
"Fill your children's Emotional Tanks. Like a car's gas tank, an empty Emotional Tank won't take us far, but when the Tank is full we can keep running."
WEEKLY COACH TIP
"Start practices in a way that signals to players they are part of a team that has its own way of doing things, its own culture. Develop an opening ritual that gets players moving. A distinct opening ritual helps players make the transition from whatever has been going on in their day to practice."
