Dear MSYSA League Presidents & Delegates:

As a follow up to our previous communication regarding recently enacted federal legislation ( S.534 ), our Association must offer and provide consistent training to Adult Members who are in contact with amateur athletes who are minors. Currently, there is no mandated training provider. MSYSA is aware of several program options for awareness/prevention training of sexual abuse. MSYSA recommends our Adult Members complete the online training modules provided by the U.S. Center for SafeSport. The online awareness/prevention training is offered and provided at no cost to MSYSA Adult Members. This awareness/prevention training consists of three (3) training modules which include: Sexual Misconduct Awareness Education, Mandatory Reporting, and Emotional and Physical Misconduct. Click here for information on accessing and completing the training.

Currently, the U.S. Center for SafeSport training modules are only available through accessing the U.S. Center for SafeSport website . MSYSA Adult Members who complete the training through the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s website will not need to complete the training modules again once an API (Application Programming Interface) solution that interacts with MSYSA’s online registration provider (GotSoccer) is available.

Both U.S. Soccer and U.S. Youth Soccer are developing a strategy to help all State Associations understand, communicate and manage their abuse prevention programs. The new law states that the U.S. Center for SafeSport shall develop training, oversight practices, policies and procedures for implementation by a National Governing Body. This work is in progress and will be communicated when available. MSYSA will update you on any changes to our rules and policies.

Sincerely,

Thomas Faro
