Sage In-District Services
Every year child study teams and districts identify students whose needs are beyond what the structure of the traditional school and child study team can meet. Child study team professionals understand what these discouraged students need but also recognize that they lack the time and resources necessary for the most effective intervention. Sage In-District Services is designed to fill the gap in service between traditional in-school support and an out-of-district placement. Our skilled clinical team will work with the child study team, academic staff and administration to provide a seamless counseling experience for the student. With the right therapeutic relationship and counseling, students will gain the support, strategy and insight they need in order to make progress in school. Sage In- District Services brings both the educational and counseling expertise that are the essential components of successful school-based intervention. It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of this school year. Our calendar for the month of May continues with many exciting events and activities over the next few weeks.

On May 2nd, our freshmen English classes went to Castle Shakespeare Repertory in Budd Lake, NJ, to see the theatre's production of Romeo & Juliet.

Our last round of Progress Reports became available on May 9th. Parents can access their progress by logging onto Powerschool using their Parent Access ID and Parent Access Password.

On May 9th, our senior class travelled to our Sage Day Boonton campus for an exciting game of kickball with their seniors. The group had lunch together after the game before they headed back to Rochelle Park.

On May 21st at 7:00 p.m., Mr. Montesano will be hosting Sophomore/Junior Parent Night.  The focus will be on helping parents begin and continue to plan for their child's transition from Sage Day. Some of the topics covered will include: the college admissions process, job searching and career readiness, the benefits of pursuing a trade school certification, and what students and parents can do during their high school careers to be prepared for the next steps.

Most of our seniors have made their final decisions about the colleges they will be attending.  These include:

  • St. Thomas Aquinas
  • Felician College
  • Mount St. Mary's
  • University of New Haven
  • Pace University
  • Lincoln Tech
  • Cortiva Institute
  • BCC
  • Parisian Beauty School
  • Institute of Audio Research
  • Sergeant Reynolds Community College.

A couple of our seniors are pursing employment right after graduation and are still waiting to hear back after submitting their applications. Our seniors will be taking a trip to tour Bergen Community College on May 19th from 10:00 - 1:30 p.m.

Sage Day's Track Team will be participating in another track meet on May 27th at Brookdale Park. Last year, our team received a trophy for winning first place. This year, they are hoping to repeat their winning success and will be competing against other private schools in the New Jersey area.

Our Junior/Senior Prom is on Thursday, May 22nd aboard the World Yacht Cruise in NYC.  This is a 3-hour cruise, from 8:00 -11:00 p.m., aboard a luxurious ship filled with a delectable buffet dinner, unlimited "mocktails" spectacular views of the New York skyline and dancing under the stars. This is an elegant, very memorable evening for all those who attend.

Our Community Service Club will be collecting items for the local animal shelter this month.  These items include: used blankets, towels, dog and cat toys and dried or canned food.

Fourth and fifth graders have recently completed their PBL projects where they have created their own businesses. Sixth grade students in Ms. Collins' Math class are making their own board games as they learn about probability while applying all of the skills they learned throughout the school year. Seventh grade students in Ms. Teggart's English classes continue to read The Giver while developing their own job resumes. Also in English classes, eighth graders attempt to reach our hearts and minds by applying the concepts of ethos, pathos, and logos in their own persuasive essays and public service announcements.

Outside of the classroom, students of all grade levels continue to show off their focus, concentration, and strategic skills as they compete against each other in the 7th Annual Sage Day Lower & Middle School Chess Tournament. This year there are over twenty participants competing against each other in an attempt to checkmate their way into the finals.

Students have a lot to look forward to for the rest of May and June as there is a Carnival planned, the annual Curriculum Challenge will be held, and a field trip will be taken to Jenkinson's Boardwalk at Point Pleasant. In addition, eighth graders will be treated to their own activities, such as a breakfast for their families and a fun trip to Dorney Park, as they continue to prepare to make the transition to high school.
