Congratulations to Chico Ramos, School-to-Work Coordinator, for being nominated during the month of March for SISD Service Strong. He was nominated by an anonymous colleague, and their nomination reads: "Every year, Chico provides Saginaw County students with an opportunity to attend a job fair. This year he had over 20 businesses. The students work very hard preparing for the interviews. This project has always been a vision of Chico's. He is supported by the entire MRS and STW team. We are very fortunate that Chico continues to be passionate about securing employment opportunities for Saginaw County special ed students. Thank you Chico for another amazing job fair!"

Saginaw County School Board Members Honored by MASB
The spring dinner meeting for the Saginaw County Association of School Boards took place on April 18 at the Transitions PD Center, and five local school board members and one entire school board were honored at the dinner.
The following board members received awards from the Michigan Association of School Boards:
  • Katherine Ellison, Hemlock Public School District
  • Laurasue Holcomb, St. Charles Community Schools
  • Mark Landra, Swan Valley School District
  • Mattie Thompson, Saginaw City School District
  • Leola Wilson, Saginaw Intermediate School District
  • Saginaw Intermediate School District Board of Education

Saginaw ISD Awarded ASBO International's 2016 Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting
The Saginaw Intermediate School District was awarded the 2016 Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International. SISD received this award for having met or exceeded the program's high standards for financial reporting and accountability.
Chris Frank, Director of Finance and Business Operations, and Carol Laux, Assistant Director of Finance and Business Operations were honored by the SISD Board of Education at the April 12 meeting for their work in the district receiving this award.

Month of the Young Child Celebrations
SISD students and staff celebrated Month of the Young Child by donning their purple throughout the month. The RESC building "purpled out" on Tuesday, April 18, while Saginaw ISD Head Start/Early Head Start celebrated multiple "purple out" days throughout the month and also hosted family activities and art shows. REMC 9 Offering Summer Professional Development Opportunity

REMC 9 is once again offering a hands-on professional learning event this summer. Techtastic Extravaganza II will take place on Monday, June 26 and will include multiple sessions led by local presenters including:

  • Breakout Edu- Nicol Howald
  • 3D Printing, Google and more - Janice Kato
  • Social Media and Memes - Kaycee and Brigette Dammann
  • STEAM into your classroom and 3D printing -Terrie Robbie
  • Coding in the Core and Using YouTube - Laura Trombley
  • SeeSaw - Stacy Darrow
  • Mystery Hangouts and Vinyl Printing - Shawn McFarland
  • Interactive Assessments and Google Classroom - Jessica Tuwaiq
  • Edupaths - Aaron Schippert
  • Keynote Speakers - Tosha Miller and Julie Leach (Two Sassy Apples)

A $25 stipend is available to all who attend, and each participant will also have an opportunity to win giveaways for a 3D printer, Chromebook, iPad, Sphero, OSMO, Dash/Dot, Keva Bot, and much more.
