take up his cross, and follow me.'" Matthew 16:24

Principal's Message

Dear Saint John School families,

We are approaching the end of our first full week in school. Many classroom routines are already in place and at times it seems like the students never left for the summer.

Thank you to everyone for helping make a smooth transition back to school. From your cooperation with the drop-off and pick-up procedures to making sure the uniforms conform to the school guidelines, partnering together helps our school run effectively and efficiently for the well-being of all students.

One of the exciting changes already evident this year is the formation of Faith Families under the leadership of our eighth grade students. Faith Families are groups of approximately 12 students from kindergarten to eighth grade who will attend liturgies, prayer services, and rosaries together, as well work together on other activities throughout the year. The Faith Families will be instrumental in helping foster meaningful Mass participation and involvement in Outreach service opportunities throughout the year. Don't forget to ask your child about their Faith Family.

We are continuing to refine our communication with you this year through two new programs, School Speak for student information and Constant Contact for our newsletter. Our newsletter will be emailed directly to your device(s) every two weeks. We are diligently working on our School Speak program at this time. The email and attendance functions have been successfully implemented and we are currently working on the grade book and assignment modules. Teachers will continue to have a Teacher Web Page on the Saint John School Website. They will use both their teacher website and School Speak for class announcements and links to assignments. We anticipate being finished with our initial School Speak data entry work next week at which time you will be sent your log-in/password information. Combined with our new online newsletter through Constant Contact, we are taking another step forward in "paperless" communication.

As we start the new school year, we invite each of you, whether new to our school or a returning family, to volunteer and become involved in the numerous opportunities we offer to partner with you in your child's education. Our primary parent organization, the Eagle Group, does outstanding work throughout the year in both fundraising and community building activities. The Saint John School Board acts in an advisory capacity to assist the administration with a variety of important school functions such as finance, facilities, and strategic development. There are also numerous opportunities for coaches, room parents, and classroom volunteers. Please consider joining our wonderful parents who contribute so much towards making Saint John's a great school. Watch for School Speak and newsletter announcements for positions available and meeting times.

We're hoping to see everyone at Back to School Night, which will take place on Wednesday, September 3rd for PreK through 5th grade at 6:30 pm beginning in the Parish Hall. Grades 6 through 8 will meet the following night, September 4th, at 6:30 pm starting in the student's home room.

We look forward to a great school year experience for everyone. Have a wonderful three day Labor Day weekend! Peace and blessings to you and your family.
