This Saturday

Chasing Coral

An exciting upcoming event sponsored by the Saint Luke's Green Team will be held Saturday, October 7 from 4pm-6pm in the Saint Luke's chapel, there will be a screening of "Chasing Coral", a Sundance Award winning feature. This feature documents the invention of the first time-lapse camera to record coral bleaching events as they happen. With breathtaking photography, nail-biting suspense and startling emotion, Chasing Choral is a dramatic revelation.
Click here to RSVP. Feel free to contact Dave Tharp with questions at dltharp@bellsouth.net.

Wednesday, October 11
Solarize Dunwoody
Join the Saint Luke's Green Team on Wednesday, October 11, at 7:15pm for a presentation about how you can take action to reduce pollution by switching to solar energy in your home, business, or non-profit. Solarize Dunwoody is a coalition of community groups working together to bring clean, renewable energy to Dunwoody and surrounding areas. Its goal is to make going solar easy and affordable.

Members of the Solarize Dunwoody coalition will discuss the benefits of solar, how the Solarize program works, how the equipment works, and financing options. Those who sign up for the program will receive a free, no-obligation evaluation of their site and, if solar is feasible, a detailed proposal.

At the end of the program, all solar capacity installed through Solarize Dunwoody will be aggregated; if it exceeds 250kW, Dunwoody will receive a free solar array to be installed at a non-profit chosen by the coalition.

Working together, we can make Dunwoody a leader in solar energy.

October 14

Men's Breakfast
From what most of us have read or heard from the media, traditional churches of all denominations are in a downward trend so it was surprising to learn that within PCUSA there is a division that is working hard to reverse this trend. An arm of the Presbytery, the New Church Development Commission (NCDC) partners with churches throughout the Presbytery to start new worshiping communities, and to date, there are 22 new worshiping communities in our midst. Join us for the Men's Breakfast on October 14 at 8am as we welcome Rev. Lindsay Armstrong, Executive Director of NCDC and hear more about what's happening nation-wide and in our area with new worshiping communities. Further background can be found from their Facebook page.

We need to know the number of people who are coming, so please take time to send a response if you are going to attend. Deadline for responding is Wednesday, October 11. Ladies are always welcome too. If any questions, please call either Tom Loftis (M) 770-605-2067,
tomloftis01@gmail.com or Bob Schultz , (M)404-771-6910, bobschultz1@gmail.com.

October 15-29
Countdown to Family Promise!
It's countdown time to October 15 when our guests arrive to begin their 2 week stay with us. Thanks to our Saint Luke's family for your generosity of time and spirit! Can you believe it takes over 250 volunteer hours to complete a host week?? - so over 500 volunteer hours for our double header. Thank you for helping to fill the needs.  Of over 110 on-site volunteer shifts (in addition to many food donations), we have over 80 filled. It's wonderful to have so many filled with a little time left before arrival. Please check your calendar and see if you might be able to help us fill any of the remaining spots!  Our guests will thank you! Please click here to sign up.

We are still seeking 2 Family Promise Coordinators for Saint Luke's to take the reins in 2018! This extended October host time is the perfect time to get familiar with the process!

Please contact Beth Underhill at bunderhill.mail@gmail.com
or David King at cardheel@yahoo.com with any questions.

October 22 and October 29
Conversations About Worship
In these conversations, we will be asking each other questions like, "How would you describe worship at Saint Luke's?" and "How do you experience God in worship?" Our answers to those questions will yield insight and rich variety for us all to hear and enjoy. Worship is, of course, the center of our life together, the primary source of God's expression to us, and the chief means by which we practice faithful response to God.

Everyone is welcome to attend more than one session, but priority will be placed on voices who have yet to be heard. All people and opinions will be respected and appreciated equally in our congregational listening.

Please join us, Sunday, October 22 in The Dock #210/212 (Children and Family Focus) or on Sunday, October 29 at 9:30am in the chapel.

An Appalachian Bluegrass Celebration, Sunday, October 22 at 4pm.

Saint Luke's Chancel Choir and special guests The Choral Guild of Atlanta present a concert of choral music in the bluegrass style accompanied by a bluegrass band. Guest conductor is Timothy Michael Powell from Oglethorpe University. Karen Mosbacher, a local artist with synesthesia, will paint an original canvas while the Mass is performed.

Synesthesia can be viewed as cooperation of the senses that

can beautifully lead an artist to "see" the music.

For church members, a discounted donation is $10 per adult.

October 24

Trunk-N-Treat 2017
It's time to start dreaming up fun Halloween costumes and decorations for Trunk-n-Treat! This annual event is a perennial favorite with our church family, our Little Saints Family, and our Dunwoody community. Here are the details! On Sunday, October 29:
  • 4:15pm Cars begin parking in the Mount Vernon lot so that trunks and tailgates can be decorated. If you're giving out treats at your vehicle, please be sure and plan for at least 250. All who wish to compete for a "top three" prize should register and get a number at the sidewalk table upon arrival.
  • 4:45pm - 5:30pm Carnival Games in the back parking lot. All people wearing costumes should register and get a label to wear so that our judges may identify you while you're playing games and collecting candy.
  • 5:30pm - 6:00pm Candy-collecting in the Mount Vernon parking lot. Costumed characters will visit each vehicle to get a treat!
  • 6pm - 7pm Dinner in the Great Hall featuring hamburgers, chicken tenders, and all the sides. Tickets are $5 each (Two and under eat free!) Click here to purchase your dinner.
