Recently the Gardening Angels rearranged some of the statuary around the church grounds. A handmade Episcopal shield has been pIaced in the garden bed near the west entrance, at the base of the peeling bark maple tree. The shield was given to St. Michael’s following the visit of the Haiti priest, Father Lazama. While visiting our parish, Father Lazama stayed at the home of Don and Connie Downing. Don was instrumental in starting the Haiti mission and Connie was President of the Gardening Angels. Both enjoyed gardening as a hobby.
After Father Lazama returned to Tobeck, he had members of his parish make the statue for St. Michael’s Garden. Notice that Kansas is spelled Cansas, as that sounded correct to the Haitian people. It is a special gift, given to our church from our mission church in Tobeck, Haiti. The Gardening Angels hope you will take the opportunity to enjoy it.
