PTO Meeting, Carpool Safety, Half Day
Saint Michael's Minutes
Teaching Children their value as Children of God
Principal's Notes
Dear parents and families,

This weeks letter will be a bit of a safety-themed discussion. The temperature is dropping and the shadows are getting longer! Our boiler is turned on and our classrooms have access to heat while it is needed in the morning, but please be sure to send your children in with coats and appropriate gear to keep them warm between buildings.

I ask that all our parents take care in our parking lot moving forward. When dropping your children off in the morning, it is a single-file system and you are not allowed to pass other cars in front of you. Students use both sides of the car to exit, and there is a serious risk when cars drive passed a student exiting a car trying to put their coat or book bag on. Also, please keep your speeds low while entering or exiting the parking lot. Speeding in the parking lot will not save you time on your commute and potentially puts our students at great risk. We have students walk to school and come through the parking lot, it is dark and cold, so please be careful and drive safely.

Tomorrow we will have our first Lock Down Drill. The teachers have been informed, and the students will be warned ahead of time to ensure a calm and controlled atmosphere. This will be an opportunity to gather information and ensure our staff and students are prepared for any safety and security situations.

God bless,

Daniel V. Cinalli

P.S.- Go Nats!

Besides eating a healthy breakfast, getting a good night sleep is also essential in helping your child focus on their schoolwork.  According to the National Institute of Health, school-age children need at least 9 hours of sleep a night.  Try these tips to help maintain a healthy sleep hygiene for your child:

* Keep your child's bedtime at around the same time each evening.  The body functions better when it's on a set schedule.

* Exercise is great for children, but not right before bed.  Try to decrease their activity level before sleeping.

* Don't have your child do their homework while sitting or lying on the bed.

* Don't eat before bedtime.  Food gives energy and can cause indigestion that interferes with sleep
